Wolves have been incredibly keen to tie down some of their key players to new contracts in recent months.
Matheus Cunha put pen to paper on a new deal during the winter that saw him stay at Wolves despite interest from some of the Premier League’s top clubs. And while that contract, which contains a release clause of £62.5m, doesn’t look like it’ll be enough to keep hold of the star forward beyond the summer transfer window, Wolves have now tied down another Brazilian star on a longer term basis.
Fan favourite Joao Gomes has now put pen to paper on a five-year deal to remain at Molineux until the summer of 2030, with an option to retain to the player’s services for a further year if mutually agreed upon.

It’s a contract signing that will delight many fans who were previously worried the midfielder, like Cunha, was set to leave the club in the summer.
Joao Gomes signs new five-year deal at Wolves
The midfielder put pen to paper on a new contract just before Wolves face off against West Ham United on their return to Premier League action on April 1.
A club statement on the news reads: “Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes has committed his long-term future to the club by signing a new five-year contract.
“The midfielder, whose deal includes a 12-month option, has grown into a key member of the Wolves squad in his two years in England and become a full Brazil international, while making 80 appearances in old gold.”
Manager Vitor Pereira also expressed his delight at the news, citing the player’s commitment as a key reason why he’s a vital asset for Wolves:
“I’m very happy because Joao is a team player. He gives every time 100 per cent, in training, in the games, and he has the quality to help this team and this club to make the next step,” said Pereira.
Joao Gomes will be a key player for Vitor Pereira in 2025/26
With a nine-point gap between themselves and the relegation zone, and a supercomputer predicting that they don’t need a single point between now and the end of the season to stay in the Premier League, Wolves are now clearly preparing for another season in the top flight in 2025/26.
Gomes has been a key player since he joined the club in 2023, making over 80 appearances in all competitions. The Brazilian has been a near ever-present under Pereira since the he took over too, with the new manager clearly viewing Gomes as an integral member of his starting XI.
The news puts to bed any fears that Gomes was set to leave Wolves during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Molineux News understood that Joao Gomes had been attracting a lot of interest ahead of the transfer window reopening in June. Tottenham Hotspur held a particular interest in Gomes’ services, but had been more likely to make a move for Angel Gomes instead of his Wolves namesake.
