Wolves confident Rob Edwards can do one key thing immediately, after replacing Vitor Pereira

Wolves are set to name Rob Edwards as their new head coach – and Molineux officials are ‘confident’ he can take a very important step.

Wolves have had a terrible season and for that Vitor Pereira paid the price.

The Portuguese was sacked after the recent 3-0 defeat to Fulham, with Domenico Teti leaving days later.

Rob Edwards will now be tasked with trying to keep Wolves in the Premier League. That will be a huge challenge, and may have already written Wanderers off.

But there’s still a lot of football left to be played and points on offer.

A couple of positive weekends for Wolves could see the picture and mood change entirely.

At the moment the mood is low, but Molineux officials are said to be confident that Edwards can do something really important as soon as he comes in.

There are many things Edwards has got to fix on the training ground from a tactical point of view.

Wolves aren’t scoring, and are conceding too many, which is obviously a terrible combination.

But just as important for Edwards, will be setting the tone.

And encouragingly, the Daily Mail reported last night that Molineux officials are ‘confident’ that Edwards can unite the players and the staff, who have been dealing with the hangover of the Pereira sack and the season so far.

Edwards already knows some of the staff which will stand him in good stead.

It’s also mentioned that Edwards is ‘an engaging character and was liked and respected at Wolves’ when he was last there.

This update will likely please Dave Edwards, who previously urged Wolves’ next manager to mimic Pereira in terms of uniting the club.

Edwards must actually take a leaf out of Vitor Pereira’s book

It all fell apart for Vitor Pereira at Wolves in 2025/26.

But there was no overstating how impressive his contributions were last season, and especially right when he first succeeded Gary O’Neil.

Pereira did a great job of uniting a frustrated and fractured Wolves.

And he didn’t just bring the players together, he got the fans onside very quickly as well.

He took the One Pack mentality and ran with it, and Wolves turned into one of the form teams in Europe as a result.

Edwards actually does need to try and emulate that, and given what’s been said about his character, there’s a reasonable chance he’ll be able to do so.
