Wolves’ concerning January transfer plans revealed as they aim to keep their Premier League status

Wolves are prepared to ‘shift their transfer policy’ in the January window but it may not please the Old Gold faithful.

Wolves are in a relegation battle. The club’s awful start to the season has left them 19th in the Premier League table with just one win.

Gary O’Neil has been under fire from Wolves fans as performances and results remain poor.

One of the biggest factors of this decline has been their defence. Wolves have conceded the most goals in the Premier League so far this season with 27 hitting the Old Gold’s net.

Wolves were on course to concede the most goals in Premier League history before their recent uplift in form.

Now, with only three fit centre-backs available to O’Neil, Fosun are prepared to make funds available in order to sign a defender.

With the January window now just over a month away, many Wolves fans were keen to see multiple new additions in what could be a crucial period.

In 2023, when the club was in a similar situation, multiple new faces came in such as Matheus Cunha and Joao Gomes

However, according to John Percy, Wolves are set to only target a centre-back in the upcoming window.

The report states that the Old Gold are prepared to ‘shift their transfer policy’ in January and prioritise signing a centre-back either on loan or permanently after funds were made available.

However, Wolves will not make any further additions, as Fosun is ‘determined to work on a tight budget’.

A poor January window will see Wolves relegated from the Premier League

While a centre-back is no doubt needed in January, not targeting other positions is a massive mistake for Wolves.

Many of the squad have underperformed massively this season and further reinforcements are needed to improve the quality available.

It is naive of Fosun and Wolves to not invest more in January. Every club around Wolves will bring in multiple new faces to help them remain in the Premier League. If Wolves do not go down a similar route, all signs point to relegation.

While the defence has been awful this season, it is not the only issue. Wolves need an additional backup striker as well as a winger who is capable of holding down a spot in the starting XI.

It is no secret that the January window in 2023 kept Wolves in the division; not following a similar route this year is foolish.
