Wolves coaches face difficult Yerson Mosquera task as club issues injury update

Wolves defender Yerson Mosquera underwent surgery after suffering an ACL injury against Aston Villa.

It’s already been quite the season for Mosquera, who after breaking into Gary O’Neil’s favoured XI, had his campaign cruelly ended by injury.

The Colombian was thriving in both the Premier League and on the international stage before he was stretchered off at Villa Park, bringing his season to a premature close.

After undergoing surgery, the centre-back’s journey to returning to action began, with Wolves expected to face a challenge regarding Mosquera’s recovery.

Wolves face Yerson Mosquera challenge as injury update emerges

It’s a devastating scenario for Mosquera but is a challenge that the 23-year-old is ready to combat head-on.

On the pitch, O’Neil will have to learn to adapt without the central defender but off it, the club could face an even greater task.

Speaking on the Wolves Express podcast, Phil Hayward, Wolves’ Head of High Performance, shared an update on Mosquera, praising the defender’s attitude to recovery.

“He’s got a long journey ahead of him but with Yerson, he’s an ultra-positive guy and he’s taking everything in his stride,” Hayward said before outlining one challenge the club could have.

“He’s already talking about getting on the grass again. I think with him, it’ll be a case of us holding him back a bit because he’ll be desperate to push on as quick as he can.”

It’s clear that Mosquera is desperate to get back to helping his team, with Wolves already aware of the tight leash they will have to keep the 23-year-old on to slow him down.

The Colombia international has an admirable mindset, in what has been a cruel start to the 2024/25 calendar.

Mosquera recovery plan outlined

As well as sharing an insight into Mosquera’s desire to return to action, Hayward shared a brief indication of what is next for the defender.

After successfully undergoing surgery, the former Villarreal loanee will spend some time at home recovering before returning to Compton.

“He’ll be at home for a couple of days and then once he’s feeling better, he’ll be back into the club again, probably next week, to start that management stage of his rehab,” Hayward explained.

There’s a long road ahead of Mosquera to walk however, with the support of the club, the Colombian will overcome the hurdles in his way.

The most important thing is that the defender’s surgery was successful and that his mindset is positive, with the road to recovery already well underway.
