Wolves’ chaotic start to 2025/26 underlined by intriguing statistic as Man City lead way

Wolves fans predicted another tough start this season – and one statistic has now emerged to potentially suggest why Vitor Pereira’s side have struggled.

Wolves are still to get a point on the board in the Premier League, having lost all four games so far.

The fixture list now lets up for a few weeks. That said, there are never any easy games in the Premier League and with confidence not exactly soaring right now, Wolves have their work cut out to turn things around.

Frustratingly, Wolves came into the new season poorly prepared. Fosun were said to have acknowledged the need for a rebuild, but many have questioned the business that was done

Many players left the club and those that have come in are essentially gambles.

Most of the new faces arrived towards the end of the window which wasn’t good, and it has all just been rather chaotic – and one statistic further underlines this.

Building momentum in the Premier League is so important.

And in order to do that, a manager needs to find his best team as quickly as possible.

But seemingly, Vitor Pereira has not yet been able to do this, having chopped and changed from game to game.

And The Athletic have reported some interesting data in an article this morning regarding changes to lineups so far this season in the Premier League.

Currently, Wolves are tied second in the table for changes made (11, along with Aston Villa), second only to Manchester City (12).

Pereira may be rubbing shoulders with Pep Guardiola, but surely the Wolves boss will be keen to be making fewer changes to his starting XI.

Pereira must quickly find his best Wolves team

It is perhaps no coincidence that Wolves are bottom of the Premier League, but high up in the changes to lineup table.

There could well be a correlation, with Aston Villa currently 19th having also made 11 changes to their lineup.

It’s also interesting to glance down at the teams who haven’t made many changes to their team. Bournemouth have made just two, so are second-bottom of the lineup changes table, and yet find themselves fourth in the Premier League table.

Wolves making so many changes so far is perhaps a natural by-product of the poor summer the club had in the transfer window.

But it may also point to Pereira not necessarily knowing his best team yet, and he could do with finding it quickly.

Surely at this point, he needs a fairly settled team and crucially, he needs mostly playing their regular positions.
