With safety already secured, Wolves will want to end the season on a high, and they could potentially break a Premier League record in the process.
Vitor Pereira’s record-breaking start at Molineux has helped transform Wolves’ fortunes in the back end of the season.
Previous manager Gary O’Neil blamed the Wolves squad for the club’s poor start to the season, but Pereira has more than proved the Englishman wrong.
The Portuguese boss hasn’t made too many changes since arriving in the West Midlands, instead deciding to build upon the foundations left by the previous regime.
O’Neil had created a strong forward line at Molineux, but Pereira has managed to refine the Wolves attack – something which has been replicated by the stats.

Wolves can break Premier League goal record
Matheus Cunha’s goalscoring antics have no doubt played a big part in securing safety, but Wolves’ attack as a whole has been impressive this season.
That is because their tally of 51 goals ranks them 12th in the Premier League, comfortably ahead of Manchester United and Crystal Palace.
Most Premier League goals scored | Goals scored |
11) Nottingham Forest | 54 |
12) Wolves | 51 |
13) Fulham | 50 |
That tally of 51 is actually the joint-most goals Wolves have ever scored in a Premier League season, with their previous best coming back in the 2019-20 season under Nuno Espirito Santo.
Unless Pereira’s side suddenly lose their shooting boots in their final three games, they will no doubt clinch the goal record.
Defence has been the problem for Wolves
The numbers suggest Pereira won’t want to change much about the Wolves attack heading into next season; he will, however, want to shore up his defence.
Worst defensive records in the Premier League | Goals conceded |
16) West Ham United | 59 |
17) Wolves | 62 |
18) Ipswich Town | 76 |
19) Leicester City | 76 |
20) Southampton | 82 |
The Portuguese boss has been able to tighten up the backline since arriving in the West Midlands, but Wolves currently still rank as their fourth-worst defensive team in the Premier League.
Wolves record | Games | Goals conceded per game |
Vitor Pereira | 22 | 1.32 |
Gary O’Neil | 63 | 1.86 |
Wolves’ record of 1.32 goals conceded per game under Pereira suggests they are definitely going in the right direction, though, compared to the 1.86 conceded during O’Neil’s tenure.
If the Molineux outfit can continue to shore up defensively, whilst also keeping that attacking flair – Pereira could be in for a very successful second season in charge.
