Wolves are in their 12th season in the Premier League, and their largest margin of victory in the division couldn’t have come at a better time.
Back in the 2010/11 season, Wolves were sat in the same position they find themselves in today, bottom of the league but with ten games to go.
Then under the guidance of Mick McCarthy, the Old Gold came up against Blackpool, another side flirting with relegation.

Wolves 4-0 Blackpool
Wolves wouldn’t have known it at the time, but this game would determine the outcome of both sides’ campaigns.
Wolves were bottom, four points behind Blackpool and it felt like anything but a win wouldn’t be good enough.
Matt Jarvis got Wolves off the mark just two minutes in, and the game was tightly contested for the remainder of the first half. A Blackpool red card swung the game in favour of McCarthy’s men.
After the break, Wolves would look to press their advantage, with Jamie O’Hara scoring ten minutes after play resumed and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake sealing the affair with two late goals.
It was Wolves’ largest win in the Premier League, and hasn’t been bested since. The timing of the performance also couldn’t have been better.
Wolves narrowly survived
When the season came to an end, the margin by which Wolves survived was just one point.
Wolves amassed 40 points for the season compared to Blackpool and Birmingham’s 39. If that Blackpool match ended in a draw, Wolves would have gone down in their place.

It was a fantastic outcome for Wolves, but the celebrations would be short-lived. The following season, they finished dead last by quite a distance, and dropped down to the Championship.
Gary O’Neil’s Wolves went one further
12 years later, Wolves were back in the Premier League, while Blackpool were in League One.
They faced off in the Carabao Cup, where Wolves bettered the 2010/11 win, beating Blackpool 5-0.
Goals from Sasa Kalajdzic, Fabio Silva, Nathan Fraser and a brace from none other than Matt Doherty sealed the win.
Unfortunately, Ipswich Town knocked Wolves out in the next round.
