Wolves and Rob Edwards told they must not repeat one costly error vs Man United after last meeting

Wolves are in action at Old Trafford tonight – and Rob Edwards has been urged to avoid making the same mistake as last time.

Wolves only played against Manchester United a few weeks ago in the reverse fixture at Molineux, which played host to protests against Fosun.

Since then, Jeff Shi has stepped down as chairman at Wolves – and fans are hoping that is one decision that will ultimately help the club get back on the straight and narrow.

Last time out, United won 4-1, coasting to victory in the second-half.

Wolves’ defending was terrible, but there have been improvements since then and tonight there is a chance for revenge.

And Dave Edwards has given Rob Edwards some advice ahead of the contest.

It’ll be fascinating to see what kind of team Edwards goes with tonight.

Mateus Mane and Tolu Arokodare both did well against Liverpool and could well keep their places.

Dave Edwards thinks Jorgen Strand Larsen should be brought back in for Wolves to partner Arokodare, with Mane to play as a number 10.

But one thing is for certain, Wolves cannot defend like they did last time.

The team were so poor on the transition, and made it easy for United to run away with the game.

For Dave Edwards, the key to getting a result will for Wolves to ensure they aren’t open. He said (via E&S): “Manchester United away is next up tonight and I expect to see a similar set-up and United are not as good as those other teams so it’s an opportunity for Wolves to get a result.

“There are big open spaces at Old Trafford, so there will be huge opportunities on the counter-attack and Wolves have to make the most of it. They have to stay in the game early on and not be as open as what they were against United and Molineux.”

Rob Edwards could name unchanged attack vs Man United

With there being big open spaces at Old Trafford, it could be that Rob Edwards sticks with the three attackers that started against Liverpool.

The pace of Mateus Mane and Hwang Hee-chan could cause problems, so that could mean Strand Larsen stays on the bench.

But the crucial thing for Wolves will be to make the most of those counter-attacking opportunities, and to not turn the ball over cheaply.

This happened in the last meeting and the Old Gold were punished for it.

So keeping things tight and being ruthless when the opportunities arise surely has to be the plan.
