Wolves and Rob Edwards handed controversial appointment for Crystal Palace clash

Wolves fans may feel a little bit more nervous about Rob Edwards’ opening game against Crystal Palace after the Premier League’s referee announcement.

Rob Edwards has been given a fairly tough ask in his first game as Wolves manager, with Oliver Glasner and his mid-table Crystal Palace side coming to Molineux.

Crystal Palace have won three of their last five fixtures against Wolves, which includes a whopping 12 goals during the last four games.

Anthony Taylor has refereed 32 Wolves games in his career, in which they’ve lost 16, won 10 and drawn six.

The latest was a 3-1 defeat to Leeds United at Molineux earlier on this season.

Anthony Taylor controversy during Wolves vs Newcastle United

Anthony Taylor will be a name that Wolves fans don’t have fond memories of

Back in October of 2023, Taylor refereed the 2-2 draw between Newcastle United and Wolves at Molineux.

With the game at 1-1 in first-half stoppage time, on-field referee Anthony Taylor awarded a spot-kick when Hwang challenged Schar for the ball in the Wolves area, but the Newcastle man appeared to kick the turf and looked to already be on his way down before any contact.

This led to pure chaos both during and after the match, as Matt Hobbs was sanctioned for a comment towards Taylor, whilst he himself was demoted to the Championship after that game.

What made things worse was that even Newcastle United star Callum Wilson admitted
