Wolves ace Jorgen Strand Larsen admits he really wishes he had one of Joao Gomes’ best attributes

Wolves have climbed out of the relegation zone thanks to a huge win over Fulham in the Premier League.

Wanderers beat Fulham 4-1 on Saturday at Craven Cottage in what was easily the team’s best performance all season.

Wolves had to start without Santiago Bueno and Craig Dawson, but there were top performances at the back from Mario Lemina and Toti Gomes.

And Matheus Cunha was once again the star of the show for Wolves, scoring twice and providing one assist for Joao Gomes. Goncalo Guedes also got in on the action in injury-time.

Cunha was amazing, but there was also another top performance from Joao Gomes in midfield.

And the Brazilian’s quality is certainly not lost on striker Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Joao Gomes did not start the 2024/25 season particularly well, but in recent weeks he’s upped his game significantly.

The 24-year-old shone against Manchester City, and followed that up with great displays against Brighton and Crystal Palace, against whom he scored.

Gomes grabbed his second goal of the season yesterday against Fulham, ghosting into the box and collecting a great little through ball from Cunha, before finding the bottom corner with a left-footed strike.

Gomes had some fantastic stats against Fulham, and Jorgen Strand Larsen was particularly impressed with his teammate’s footwork.

On Instagram yesterday evening, the Norwegian took to his Instagram Story to post about Gomes.

Re-posting a picture of the pair in the dressing room together that Gomes had shared, he said: “What a player!!! Wish I had the same Brazilian ball control.”

Gomes is back to his best for Wolves

Gomes has definitely rediscovered his mojo in recent weeks and it’s been brilliant to watch him play with such determination.

Gomes has previously spoken of his respect for Gary O’Neil, and shared how much the Wolves manager has helped him at Molineux.

You get the sense that he’s one player in particular who doesn’t want to see O’Neil get sacked, and is just making it his mission to give absolutely everything.

The £30,000-a-week dynamo has really taken responsibility in recent matches, and we are perhaps now starting to see Gomes make big strides with his on-the-ball ability.

Previously, O’Neil has challenged Gomes to improve on the ball and he appears to be heading in the right direction – Strand Larsen certainly seems to be impressed, at least.
