Wolves ace Chiquinho shares high praise of Gary O’Neil amid exit links

Wolves winger Chiquinho has been the subject of a host of transfer interest this summer following a successful loan spell in 2023/24.

Gary O’Neil will be encouraged by what he’s seen throughout the summer at Wolves, as the manager was given the opportunity to properly assess his squad.

The Englishman had the task of reviewing all 15 of the players the Old Gold sent on loan last season, with one returning loanee generating a lot of interest.

24-year-old Chiquinho spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan with Famalicao where he impressed many with his ability.

Chiquinho opens up about working with Gary O’Neil at Wolves

Chiquinho contributed to seven goals in Liga Portugal last term, where his dazzling displays on the wing caught the attention of Sporting CP.

Sporting, Mallorca and Turkish side Gaziantep F.K admire Chiquinho, whose future has been heavily speculated this summer.

Before Wolves’ pre-season tour of the United States, Sporting CP were understood to be tracking the 24-year-old’s involvement in O’Neil’s plans.

Now, the Portuguese ace looks set to remain at Wolves, with his comments to Express and Star about O’Neil only reinforcing his desire to stay.

“He’s really nice and is a coach who likes to talk and be with the players, he manages us very well. For me, he couldn’t be better,” Chiquinho said.

The forward, who has made eight Premier League appearances for Wolves so far, went on to explain why he believes Molineux is the best place for him to be at the moment.

“All the staff, including the gaffer, are really important because they always try to push me.

“I know I can do better and they know my value, so it’s really important to have a coach that likes to talk to the players and push them in a good way. I like the way the gaffer manages things and I’m happy.”

Wolves could unearth a gem in Chiquinho

The signs are certainly there that Chiquinho could become a valuable member of O’Neil’s squad, with the player having all the faith in the manager’s strategy.

During pre-season, the winger’s quality was noticed by journalist Nathan Judah, who described the 24-year-old as being ‘absolute class’ alongside fellow returning loanee, Yerson Mosquera.

Following the difficulties that the boss endured throughout the 2023/24 campaign, having talented returning loanees back in his squad is a significant plus to bolster depth.

Now, the hope will be that Chiquinho can take off at Wolves following his impressive year developing away from the club.
