Wolves ace Andre has already noticed one key difference between Gary O’Neil and Vitor Pereira

Wolves will hope a change in the dugout will inspire improved fortunes as they look to escape relegation from the Premier League.

The decision was finally made to sack Gary O’Neil on Sunday after Wolves were beaten for the fourth straight game.

Wolves now replaced O’Neil with Vitor Pereira, and the 56-year-old has a huge challenge on his hands to drag his side to safety.

Pereira has taken his first training session at Compton Park and supporters were left impressed by his methods but also hearing a Portuguese accent once more.

It perhaps reminds them of the time when Nuno Espirito Santo was at the helm and Wolves qualified for Europe in back-to-back campaigns.

Nuno has since congratulated Pereira on joining the Premier League while midfielder Andre has already noticed a key difference between him and O’Neil.

Andre thinks Vitor Pereira being Portuguese will ‘help a lot’

Wolves have a diverse squad full of internationals and perhaps O’Neil struggled to communicate messages to his players.

The 41-year-old and his staff were all English while the players he managed were of different nationalities, including Portuguese, Brazilian, Spanish, Norwegian, and Korean.

Towards the end of his tenure, it was clear that the Wolves players didn’t buy into O’Neil’s tactics, resulting in anger spilling onto the pitch.

One player who has struggled recently is summer signing Andre, and he’s already claimed that Pereira being Portuguese will make a huge difference.

“I think he’s going to help a lot, especially for me, having a trainer who speaks Portuguese,” Andre told Wolves’ official website.

“Before, the whole coaching staff was English, so that was a bit difficult when the squad is made up of Portuguese, Brazilian, Spanish, Norwegian, Korean players.

“It’s also a very young group, but very united, and we know that with Vitor Pereira’s experience he’s going to get the best out of each player.

“As I said, he likes to compete, and he likes his teams to bring a lot of energy to the pitch. As a very young team, we are ready to pay the price on the pitch to avoid this situation and escape relegation.”

Andre can be a big player for Pereira

When a new manager arrives, every player is given a clean slate to prove their worth and Andre is someone who will be looking to impress.

In October, Andre had the Premier League’s highest passing accuracy but since then, the 23-year-old has seen his form and consistency suffer.

With O’Neil often preferring Mario Lemina and Joao Gomes as a double pivot, starts weren’t always guaranteed for the £21 million signing, although under new boss Pereira, he looks destined to become an important piece of the puzzle.

Pereira’s style promotes midfield control and lots of possession. The Brazil international enjoys showcasing his incredible passing range, which suggests he could become the conductor for Wolves.

Indeed, the new manager could relish working with the young midfielder, who still has so much potential to unearth at Molineux.
