Why Fosun should be handing ‘exciting’ 24-year-old Wolves star a new contract

It has been reported that Wolves are looking to hand several stars new contracts at Molineux – and few players in the squad deserve one more than Toti Gomes.

Last week, there were claims that Wanderers were seeking to get Hwang Hee-chan tied down to a new deal, with the South Korean having been in amazing form so far this season.

Hwang has been a standout player this term alongside Pedro Neto, scoring seven goals so far.

Apparently, Wolves are now in talks with Hwang and his representatives over a new deal and the hope is that an agreement will soon be reached.

Since this, it has been claimed Wolves are looking to get more of their players tied down to improved contracts and arguably, Toti should be somewhere near the very front of the queue…

Toti has become much more involved for Wolves in recent times.

This season, Wolves’ upturn in form can be attributed to the change in formation, which was first rolled out by Gary O’Neil against Manchester City.

Toti was brought in to make a back three, which kind of becomes a back four when Wolves have the ball, with Rayan Ait-Nouri pushing further forward and Toti covering the space.

Wolves beat City 2-1 and Toti was solid. He has been named as a starter by O’Neil in every Premier League game since.

You just know at this point what you are going to get with Toti. He is a solid defender, who is brilliant both in the air and on the ground.

He looks totally at home operating on the left of the back three and then moving out wide, and we have also actually seen Toti showcase a bit of attacking flair this season – who could forget the brilliant footwork he showed before setting up Hwang against Newcastle?

Before coming into the side against City, O’Neil called Toti ‘an exciting player’ and someone who was going to be ‘extremely important’ for the squad. That is now proving to be the case – and it is so good to see.

Because Toti probably hasn’t played as much as he should have done at Wolves, since coming back from his loan spell with Grasshoppers in January 2022.

That said, he has never once complained or done any interviews about his previous lack of game time. He’s just got his head down, worked hard and forced his way into the side. He is truly an example to all players, and every squad needs a player like him.

Recently, Toti made his debut for Portugal which was absolutely amazing to see

Having watched his journey unfold, it is surely right that he gets a new contract from Wolves soon. His last came in March 2022 so it’s nearly two years since he penned fresh terms.

Hopefully, he’ll indeed be one of the players Wolves are looking to tie down along with Hwang.
