Goncalo Guedes injury confirmed after Wolves win
While Wolves did earn three points, it wasn’t easy, with matters not made any easier before kick-off as the squad suffered another injury.
When the starting XI was confirmed, it became apparent that Goncalo Guedes wasn’t available, leaving fans wondering where the Portuguese forward was.
It was later confirmed that the 28-year-old had suffered an injury, something that journalist Nathan Judah elaborated on after the victory.
On X, the Wolves reporter confirmed that Guedes missed out due to a knee injury but, his absence is believed to be short-term.
“Goncalo Guedes missed out with a knee issue. Been managing it since Blackburn (poor pitch) and felt discomfort yesterday. Rodrigo Gomes is out with pelvis inflammation. Both seen as short term.”
It was a shame to see the forward miss out as Pereira wanted to see more from Guedes following the player’s mishaps against Liverpool last time out.
Marshall Munetsi stepped up in Guedes’ absence
In place of Guedes, January deadline day signing Marshall Munetsi joined the front line and certainly impressed.
The 28-year-old, who was signed as a defensive midfielder, showed the attacking side of his game, earning his first Premier League goal contribution by assisting Cunha.
Marshall Munetsi vs Bournemouth |
49 touches |
1 assist |
11 duel wins |
4 clearances |
5 tackles |
While it was a good display, Munetsi should’ve been on the scoresheet himself, missing a resounding chance to score at the Vitality.
Still, the early signs from the midfielder are positive, leaving Guedes with an uphill battle to overcome when he returns from injury.
