Who is Max Kilman? The former centre-back who once held the Old Gold armband

The defender has certainly had an interesting career to date. After six years at Molineux, Kilman finally departed the club for West Ham.

The defender was a permanent fixture in Wolves’ first-team with Gary O’Neil at the helm. As a result, Kilman was one of the club’s most prized assets.

What is Max Kilman’s age and height?

Kilman was born on May 23, 1997. At the time of writing, this makes him 27 years old. The centre-back also stands at 1.94 metres making him six foot four inches. 

Where was Kilman born?

Kilman was born in Chelsea, London. However, Kilman’s parents are both from Ukraine. His father was born in Odesa and his mother is from Kyiv.

Can he speak Russian?

As a result of his parentage, as per ESPN, Kilman can speak fluent Russian in addition to his native English tongue.

Did Max Kilman play Futsal?

Early in his career, Kilman was a regular Futsal player. He played at Genesis Futsal Club alongside the 11-a-side game up until 2018. His performances saw him capped 25 times for the England Futsal team.

However, as a result, he is no longer eligible to play for Ukraine due to his appearances for the England national team.

How much did Max Kilman cost Wolves?

Wolves signed Max Kilman in August 2018 from non-league side Maidenhead. This move was believed to have cost the club just £40,000, one of the biggest bargains in Wolves’ history.

Did Maidenhead have a sell-on clause?

Yes, Kilman’s former club Maidenhead do have a sell-on clause for the defender. The Madienhead chairman, Peter Griffin, confirmed in April 2024 that his club could receive some money if Wolves cashed in on the defender this summer.

As a result, upon his transfer away from Wolves, Maidenhead netted 10% of the fee. 

When did he become the Wolves captain?

Kilman became captain of Wolves in August 2023. The defender took the armband from modern legend Ruben Neves who departed the club for Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal in the same summer.

Wolves manager O’Neil confirmed Kilman’s appointment as captain just two days after joining the club.

On earning the role, Kilman said: “When Ruben left, I didn’t feel I had to stamp my authority and say I wanted it. I was chosen and, of course, I’m very privileged. Off the pitch, it brings more responsibility, but on the pitch, I’ll always do my best and show my leadership skills in my own way.”

When did Max Kilman leave Wolves?

Kilman departed Wolves in July 2024, joining former manager Julen Lopetegui at West Ham for £40 million.
