When Wolves are set to announce Rob Edwards as compensation to Middlesbrough now shared

Wolves are set for a new era following the sacking of Vitor Pereira last weekend, with Rob Edwards to return to the club.

After playing for the club and holding several coaching roles, Edwards is coming back, after Middlesbrough granted permission for talks on Saturday.

Boro have not been happy about Wolves’ approach, but ultimately they have realised Rob Edwards wanted the job.

Edwards will now be tasked with steadying the ship for Wolves, following a dismal start to the season under Pereira.

It remains to be seen whether he can somehow keep Wolves in the Premier League.

But this appointment does suggest that there have been thoughts about the long term, with Edwards having experience in the Championship and Wolves’ current position extremely precarious.

It’s only a matter of time, and now there is word about the compensation Wolves are paying Boro.

Wolves are in big trouble.

With just two points taken from 11 Premier League games, the club will need to make history to stave off relegation.

No team has ever survived with this points tally after 11 games, so Edwards has his work cut out.

But he’ll definitely be the man for Wolves, with David Ornstein dropping some interesting details today about Edwards’ move to Molineux.

He reports for The Athletic that Wolves have agreed to pay £2 million in compensation to Boro for taking Edwards from them.

And there is also word of when this could all be official, with Ornstein saying an official announcement should arrive early this coming week. Edwards will actually arrive at Wolves tomorrow to finalise everything, and it’s then just a case of Wolves announcing it. Potentially, the announcement could be the same. He is set to sign a three-and-a-half-year contract with the club.

Discussions are currently ongoing over the make-up of Edwards’ new coaching team. Molineux News was informed earlier this week that there is a chance Joleon Lescott could return to Wolves to take up a coaching role, but all will become clear very soon.

Matt Jackson will be top Wolves executive

There is also a line about Matt Jackson, who has helped Jeff Shi and Matt Wild in the search for a new manager.

Jackson is Wolves’ director of player recruitment and development, and Ornstein says in his report that he’ll likely now be the top executive at Molineux.

There will apparently be scope for adding to the leadership team following the exit of director of professional football Domenico Teti earlier this week.

But for now Jackson appears to be in the highest position after Shi.

Wild – the general manager of football operations at Wolves – is also high up, and is said to have led the negotiations for Edwards with Boro’ CEO Neil Bausor.
