Wolves go to Villa Park this weekend, which was the scene of a famous result a few years ago.
Rob Edwards is hoping to get his first win since coming in as the new manager, and he’s had a better week of preparation compared to last week.
Edwards had a number of players arriving back late in the week last week after the international break, which wasn’t ideal.
But this week he’s had everyone barring Rodrigo Gomes – who is doing individual ball work.
Matt Doherty has been pictured in full training, having recovered from the knee injury that he picked up before the international break.
But despite these positives, Wolves fans aren’t exactly optimistic about winning at Villa Park, which is something Wolves did in dramatic fashion back in 2021.
Wolves’ win over Aston Villa in 2021 was a memorable match

Back in 2021, Wolves looked to be heading for certain defeat at Villa Park.
The home side had taken a 2-0 lead in the game thanks to goals from Danny Ings and John McGinn.
Wolves have put in a really poor performance and so, what happened in the final knockings of the contest was truly extraordinary.
Old Gold defender Romain Saiss pulled one back for Wolves on 80 minutes, after Ruben Neves played in Daniel Podence, who supplied the perfect ball across for a tap-in.
Wolves’ comeback victory at Villa Park in 2021 was something special
Wolves then found an equaliser, with captain Conor Coady equalising in extremely scruffy but effective fashion. Adama Traore’s ball to the back post found Leander Dendoncker, who crossed for Coady to bundle home.
To get back to 2-2 was unlikely, yet brilliant – but Wolves were not finished.
In injury-time, Neves stepped up to score from a free-kick on the edge of the Villa box, prompting scenes of absolute bedlam in the away end.
The strike took a deflection off the wall to wrong-foot Emi Martinez, and it provided one of the best Wolves moments since the club’s return to the Premier League in 2018.
Every Wolves player celebrated with the fans, including even goalkeeper Jose Sa, who sprinted the full length of the field to join in.
Wolves need something special again to beat Aston Villa
It was extraordinary that Wolves managed to win that game back in 2021.
It was as though Wolves became a totally different team in the final 15 minutes, and it remains one of the best days for supporters since the club returned to the top-flight in 2018.
Wolves head coach Rob Edwards began his career at Aston Villa but played just nine games between 1999 and 2004. His most notable period during his playing career came at Molineux, playing 111 times for the Old Gold.
It has been quite a long time since fans felt that kind of jubilation, and there is certainly not much hope going into Sunday’s game.
Villa are in top form at the moment, with Wolves still winless and having taken just two points.
If Villa take a 2-0 lead again few will back Wolves to mount a comeback like in 2021, so it’s vital that Edwards’ side stay in the game for as long as possible and try to nick a goal.
