What Yerson Mosquera has done behind the scenes to help Wolves teammates speaks volumes

Yerson Mosquera is one of several young talents with a bright future at Wolves, with supporters left feeling excited by his potential.

Mosquera was drafted into Gary O’Neil’s plans at the start of the 2024/25 campaign as Wolves were short on defensive options after failing to replace Max Kilman.

The 23-year-old held his own physically and technically in the top flight, becoming a star at the heart of the Wanderers defence.

Unfortunately, the Colombian’s season was cut short in September as Mosquera suffered an MCL and ACL injury in the defeat to Aston Villa.

Since then, the defensive powerhouse has been working hard on the training ground to recover ahead of pre-season while helping his Wolves teammates.

How Yerson Mosquera has helped Wolves teammates despite injury

Mosquera signed a new Wolves contract last week alongside Joao Gomes, implying how highly they rate their ball-playing centre-back.

But even as the youngster goes through the pain of recovery while watching his peers shine under Vitor Pereira, he’s still a positive influence behind the scenes.

According to Pereira, Mosquera’s positive energy and willingness to help his teammates are two of the many reasons why he was awarded a new deal.

“Before I came I analysed the squad and he was a player that pleased me a lot,” the Portuguese boss said via the E&S.

“He has the qualities I like to see in a centre-back. He’s another player that smiles every time and when I speak about smiling, it’s not the smile, it’s the energy

“He’s positive every time, helping others even when he’s injured. This is the profile I want in this club.”

Mosquera is an old head on young shoulders, and even though he’s not been able to contribute on the field, his positivity has had the desired impact.

2025/26 is a huge year for Mosquera

Although he’s been denied the chance to play under Pereira so far, the Portuguese tactician already sees the qualities of the defender.

The Colombian international is destined to slot alongside defensive stalwarts Emmanuel Agbadou and Toti Gomes in the back three next term, which is a potentially mouth-watering trio.

Mosquera’s strength, positioning and qualities in possession make him perfect for the central role, or even Matt Doherty’s current place on the right of a back three.

It means that, while signing another defender in the summer is important, it’s not the highest on the list of priorities as Wolves have multiple quality options now vying for a starting spot.
