What Wolves need to happen to mathematically guarantee Premier League safety

Wolves took a huge step toward guaranteed Premier League survival with their third consecutive victory against Ipswich Town on Saturday afternoon.

Wolves beat Ipswich 2-1 to move 12 points clear of the relegation zone. The Old Gold are now within touching distance of guaranteeing their place in England’s top flight next season.

There is still some work to be done, though…

When Wolves can guarantee Premier League safety

Following Saturday afternoon’s result, Ipswich are on 20 points, Leicester are on 17 points, with a game-in-hand, and Southampton have just 10, which means Wolves are edging closer to mathematically securing survival.

The Old Gold can win 21 more points, meaning the maximum tally the side can finish the 2024-25 campaign with is 53 points.

The best Ipswich and Leicester can hope for is to finish with 41 points, therefore, Vitor Pereira must win another 10 points before the celebrations can fully begin.

The three team’s goal differences would make nine points enough for Wolves, but 10 would make it absolutely certain.

Wolves have seven league games left to play:

Although unlikely, if Ipswich and Leicester both go on winning runs, the earliest Wolves could guarantee their Premier League survival is their away game against Man City on May 2, 2025.

However, with Kieran McKenna’s men still to play some incredibly tough fixtures, Wolves could be safe without even winning another game.

Who do Ipswich and Leicester City still have to play?

Ipswich, like Wolves, have seven games left. Leicester have eight but will play Newcastle United on Monday evening.

With Leicester scheduled to travel to Molineux later this month before preparing to host Ipswich at the King Power, there would have been some tasty-looking games left to play.

As it happens, Pereira’s revolution since replacing Gary O’Neil has all but sealed his rivals’ Championship fates.
