What Wolves’ Matt Hobbs said to Anthony Taylor to pick up a one-match ban

Wolves sporting director Matt Hobbs has been handed a one-match ban and a fine after swearing at Anthony Taylor in the aftermath of the 2-2 draw with Newcastle in October.

Against Newcastle at Molineux at the end of October, there were multiple issues which likely upset anyone linked to Wolves.

Pedro Neto picked up an injury while it was another instance in which Wolves were hard done by with a controversial VAR call that left club staff and fans outraged.

After the game Wolves’ sporting director Matt Hobbs clearly wasn’t pleased and he voiced his annoyance to Premier League referee Anthony Taylor who has since reported the behaviour in which he claimed Hobbs had swore at him.

But what are the specifics that Hobbs said to Taylor?

What Matt Hobbs said to Anthony Taylor to warrant ban

In Taylor’s report to the FA, as reported by the BBC, he claimed Hobbs had “sarcastically” said, “We look forward to your apology again”.

While The Athletic got into greater detail about what was said between the pair. Hobbs reportedly called Taylor “Absolutely _______ useless as usual”.

The swear was cited in the report which then concluded that Hobbs would be charged with misconduct.

It is worth noting that he is said to have shown remorse however the FA added the conduct had clearly fallen below the expected standard.

Might’ve been in the wrong with his conduct but the message resonates

While nobody would condone the conduct shown, not even Hobbs, the message he was preaching is one we can all get behind.

Gary O’Neil himself is now massively outspoken about the issues VAR has and the impact it’s had on his team.

After the Newcastle game, he also spoke out saying, “Terrible on-field decision and terrible that VAR did not intervene so, yeah, I thought they got it badly wrong.”

Most recently, Wolves were again victims of VAR blunders against Fulham on Monday night. It was an event that O’Neil admitted had finally turned him against VAR.

“Maybe tonight has finally turned me against VAR,” the manager told Sky Sports.

The latest event means Wolves have now dropped seven points at the hands of VAR and refereeing decisions. Seven points that would have them sitting up comfortably in the top half.
