What Wolves have done to see Jhon Arias follow in the footsteps of Jeff Shi’s ‘worst deal’

At long last, Jhon Arias is a Wolves player.

The Colombian’s transfer was announced by Fluminense days ago as the winger said his farewell to the Brazilian club after four years of service.

Arias was emotional when saying goodbye to Fluminense ahead of following in Andre’s footsteps by leaving the Rio de Janeiro club for Wolves.

Now that the transfer is official, fans will be waiting to see the new signing in action, with his squad number announced.

Jhon Arias is given the number ten after signing for Wolves

Arias is living his dream by signing for Wolves, making the move to European football at the age of 27.

The forward is set to play a pivotal role in Vitor Pereira’s plans, as his squad number reflects, taking the number ten.

Arias succeeds Matheus Cunha by taking the iconic shirt number, but he also follows in the footsteps of one player Jeff Shi isn’t a fan of.

Patrick Cutrone was described as Wolves’ worst signing by Shi in a recent interview, as things never worked out for the centre-forward at Molineux.

Like Arias, Cutrone was handed the number ten shirt at the point of his arrival, and it’s fair to say that the Colombian will be eager to leave a better legacy in WV1 than the Italian.

Arias’ arrival is very exciting

Already, Arias is regarded highly at Wolves, joining some familiar faces at the club.

Yerson Mosquera is an international teammate of the winger, with Andre, of course, playing alongside the 27-year-old at Fluminense.

The forward arrives at Wolves with a big reputation after an impressive Club World Cup campaign following a strong season in Brazil.

Arias was so important to Fluminense during the 2024/25 Brazilian football calendar and will hope to have a similar impact on his new club.

The number ten carries a lot of expectation, with Wolves hoping they have a Cunha-style number ten rather than a Cutrone.
