What Vitor Pereira just said about Goncalo Guedes will please Wolves fans amid transfer speculation

Wolves saw the transfer window close last week and several issues in Vitor Pereira’s squad were resolved.

Players who no longer wanted to be at the club were sold as Mario Lemina completed a transfer to Galatasaray and Luke Cundle joined Millwall for £1m.

Vitor Pereira also added three new players to his squad, capturing defenders Emmanuel Agbadou and Nasser Djiga alongside midfielder Marshall Munetsi.

But whilst positivity circulated Molineux towards the end of the transfer window, Pereira can expect further departures in the summer.

Despite signing a new contract, clubs will be tempted by Matheus Cunha’s £62.5 million release clause after attracting interest throughout the summer.

Nelson Semedo could also leave Wolves as his contract expires in the summer while one other star is now expected to stay.

Goncalo Guedes could stay at Wolves after Vitor Pereira’s update

Goncalo Guedes wasn’t in Gary O’Neil’s plans during his time at the club, starting just once in the Premier League in the 4-0 loss at Everton.

Guedes was linked with a return to Villarreal as a result, with many supporters expecting him to leave in the January transfer window.

That was until Pereira replaced O’Neil in the dugout, and since then, the Portuguese forward has started five of the next eight games in the league.

Speculation surrounding the 28-year-old’s future has cooled in recent months, and Pereira now claims Guedes is ‘very happy’ at Molineux.

“Very happy. he’s laughing every time,” the Wolves manager said of his forward via the E&S. “I think it’s the energy. The energy in the air, it’s not love in the air, but it’s the energy in the air.”

Micah Richards was impressed with Guedes as Wolves secured a 2-0 win over Blackburn in the FA Cup last weekend and the forward is now playing some of his best football since joining the club for £27.5m.

Pereira thinks Guedes is a game-changer

The versatile forward may have only scored once and assisted once since Pereira was handed the job at Wolves however, his manager believes he can be a game-changer in matches, praising his finishing and running power.

“Guedes, he has skills to decide a game in a second,” Pereira added. “In a few seconds, he can decide a game, because he’s a scorer.

“The finishing is very good, he has the power to run with the ball and to dribble and to accelerate the game in the moment. He knows the spaces that he needs to be to receive the ball. He knows to find these spaces.”

The Portuguese tactician also suggested where his player can improve, claiming he needs to be more focused tactically and put in more defensive work.

“He needs to be focused tactically and he needs to help the team when we are defending,” he continued. “He needs to understand when he should take risks or not, because sometimes you cannot take risks.

“It’s not easy to come to the Premier League and start playing, and start to perform in the first months. But now I can speak about the moment and he is an important player for us.”
