What Vitor Pereira is constantly telling his Wolves players after replacing Gary O’Neil

It has been two weeks since Vitor Pereira came in at Wolves – and the Portuguese has already made a big impression.

Fosun finally sacked Gary O’Neil after the 2-1 defeat to Ipswich Town, and it was a decision that most felt was long overdue.

O’Neil just didn’t get the results this season, and was finally relieved of his duties after weeks of speculation surrounding his job.

Pereira has come in and already won two games out of two, with the team scoring five goals and not yet conceding.

It’s been a brilliant impact after only days at the helm, and many are now feeling much more optimistic about the club’s fate this season.

Seemingly, Pereira is relishing the challenge – and what Matt Doherty said after the win over Manchester United further suggests that.

Wolves’ appointment of Pereira came rather out of the blue.

It was only on the day of O’Neil’s sacking that his name became public, and a few days later he left Al-Shabab for Molineux.

Some were skeptical, given he’d been managing in Saudi Arabia, and that he’d had 12 clubs before Wolves.

But Pereira has quickly shown what he’s about, and Doherty has revealed that Pereira is constantly telling the players about his desire to manage in the Premier League.

He said (via Wolves official): “We’ve been struggling for most of the season, and we’ve just come off two really big performances and clean sheets. For the manager, it must be an unbelievable feeling.

“He keeps telling us about how he’s waited so long to manage in the Premier League. He used to watch Boxing Day at home on his couch, and always wanted to be involved. So, I’m sure he’ll remember it for a long time.”

Wolves look to be in safe hands with Pereira

Pereira could probably not have hoped for a better start at Wolves.

There were plenty of people feeling a bit unsure about him replacing O’Neil. But he’s said all the right things from the get-go, and overseen two good wins.

Between the comments from Doherty, and Pereira’s own admissions, you do get the sense that the Portuguese is totally honoured to be managing in the Premier League.

Now that he’s finally on English shores, he is clearly going to do his utmost to be successful.

Indeed, Pereira said in his first message to Wolves fans ‘I promise hard work and dedication to reignite the fire within the pack’

The club could well be in very safe hands with him, and hopefully, Wolves will indeed back Pereira in January with two new defensive recruits, as has been reported.
