What Vitor Pereira did against Leicester City was a ‘damning indictment’ of one player’s Wolves future

Wolves fans were delighted once more at full-time on Saturday following a convincing 3-0 win over Leicester City.

Vitor Pereira’s men are in the form of their life at the moment after six straight wins have seen them climb up to 13th in the Premier League.

Wolves fans are being treated to some exceptional football at Molineux, including the link-up between Rayan Ait-Nouri and Matheus Cunha, as well as the outstanding defensive performances of Emmanuel Agbadou.

It’s fantastic to see Pereira getting the best out of his squad, with many stars playing their best football under the Portuguese.

However, it isn’t all plain sailing as one player at Molineux will be left contemplating his future after a decision made by his manager against Leicester City.

Liam Keen thinks Hwang Hee-chan will be contemplating his Wolves future

In 2023/24, Wolves supporters adored Hwang Hee-chan. The South Korean equalled Cunha’s tally of 12 Premier League goals and was an important figure under Gary O’Neil.

Wolves showed how highly they thought of the forward by rejecting a bid from Marseille for Hwang, seeing him as an integral member of the squad.

But with several injury troubles holding him back and not fitting properly into Pereira’s system, the 29-year-old has only played 23 minutes since a 2-0 win over Aston Villa in February.

Worryingly for him, Hwang was an unused substitute against Leicester on Saturday, with Wolves expert Liam Keen feeling that was ‘damning indictment’ of where his future lies.

Speaking on the Keen & Judah show, Keen said: “Hwang was one of three players who didn’t come off the bench.

“Yes, he has just come back from a knock, but the fact he’s on the bench means he’s fit and available to come on. But for him not to be picked is a pretty damning indictment, particularly with someone like Forbs who hasn’t really been involved, is going to go back to Ajax.

“For him to get selected ahead of Hwang was not the best sign for this footballer. He’s played once in the last month, and that was an 83rd-minute substitute appearance, so questions naturally have to be around what his future is.

“Wolves could have sold him in the summer, but chose not to. I think he’s a very good footballer but you do worry about his Wolves future.”

Why Hwang hasn’t been playing for Wolves

Pereira’s system at Wolves, which utilises two number 10’s behind the striker, has unfortunately seen Hwang restricted or often not playing at all.

The South Korean’s best position is arguably as one of two strikers, peeling in behind with his electric pace and utilising his devastating finishing.

Unfortunately, with Jorgen Strand Larsen in the form of his life upfront and Cunha producing world-class displays as a number 10 alongside the likes of Marshall Munetsi and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, it’s been almost impossible for Hwang to get a look in.

Ultimately, the former RB Leipzig star is being kept out of the team by his in-form teammates, who are playing out of their skin, leaving him under immense pressure to break back in.
