What Steve Bull told Jorgen Strand Larsen during Wolves’ pre-season trip to the US

Jorgen Strand Larsen has the potential to become a cult hero at Wolves – and Steve Bull has now revealed some advice he gave the Norwegian to help him succeed at Molineux.

Strand Larsen was the club’s third new signing of the summer after Rodrigo Gomes and Pedro Lima, joining on loan from Celta Vigo.

Wolves will sign Strand Larsen permanently for around £22.5 million once he has made a certain number of appearances, which isn’t thought to be very high.

So far, Strand Larsen has done fairly well.

He has only scored one goal, which came in the 6-2 defeat to Chelsea in August.

But Strand Larsen has shown himself to be a good outlet for Wolves and his work rate has also been appreciated.

Wolves have not really had a top number nine since Raul Jimenez before his big injury, and Steve Bull has shared some advice he gave to Strand Larsen shortly after he joined to help him.

Wolves fans have very high hopes for Strand Larsen.

Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-chan both had very impressive, goal-filled seasons in 2024/25, but the feeling was always that Wolves needed and out-and-out number nine.

That has long been the feeling at Molineux.

Sasa Kalajdzic was supposed to be that player. But his injury problems have prevented that from coming to pass.

It was also hoped that Fabio Silva would come good, but his move to Wolves has just not worked out.

One man who knew a thing or two about being an amazing striker at Wolves is Steve Bull, and he recently sat down to film a video for the Under The Cosh YouTube channel.

And it was during that video the legend – who is Wolves’ all-time top scorer with 306 goals – revealed what he said to Strand Larsen about the team’s style of play during the club’s pre-season trip to the US.

He said: “I said to Larsen, when I was in Miami, our centre-forward, big number nine. I said to him ‘You’re going to have to be patient, because that ball doesn’t just come over the top’. You have to wait 20 passes until the ball gets in the box. And it might not be the right ball!

“It’s weird, I’d be frustrated with them. I’d love to play in the team, the way they play now is so fluent, unbelievable. But I wouldn’t change my time.”

Bull’s comments have rang true

It is interesting to hear Bull share the advice that he gave to Strand Larsen shortly after he signed for the club.

Arguably, the comments he made have already rang true, with Strand Larsen sometimes lacking service in this Wolves team.

He does come short and run the channels to get involved. But there are undoubtedly periods in games where he is more quiet than Gary O’Neil would probably like.

Journalist Liam Keen stated recently that he felt Strand Larsen has been a bit of a passenger at times so far this season and that he’s been ‘slightly isolated’.

The game has certainly changed a huge amount since Bull was leading the line at Molineux.

It is all about build-up these days and there are so many tactical battles happening at any one time, that it is understandable that strikers need to have a great deal of patience.
