What Ruben Neves once said about re-signing for Wolves amid January speculation

Ruben Neves established himself as a household name during his time at Wolves, but all good things must come to an end.

Wolves fans got to see the very best of Ruben Neves. It’s not very often a player captures the crowd’s attention quite like the Portuguese midfielder did, but he really was that special.

He made over 250 appearances in the Old Gold, scoring 30 of the very best and laying on 15 assists.

Sadly, Neves made the move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal for a fee of £47 million, allowing him the opportunity to increase his pay packet massively.

However, it seems as if Neves is missing the buzz of Premier League football, as there have been rumours of a return to England.

Ruben Neves said he would be open to returning to Wolves

Wolves are yet to really replace Ruben Neves, a few years after his exit.

Joao Gomes is perhaps the closest to replicating what the former Wolves star did, but he just lacks the creativity and shooting ability in the final third.

Given the emotional scenes when Neves left Wolves, perhaps some supporters wondered whether a reunion would ever be on the cards at Molinex.

Well, there was potential for a return at some point in his career, with the midfielder stating that he would be open to re-joining if they were one of his options.

Wolves blow their chance to sign Ruben Neves

The love Ruben Neves has for Wolves would have given them a great chance of securing his signature in January, but the current position is the real issue.

Sitting at the bottom of the table, it’s difficult to see what any player would see in a move to Molineux, let alone someone who is one of the best in his position in the world.

Of course, he did make a name for himself in the Championship at Wolves, but times have changed and he was a relatively unproven, young midfielder back then.
