What Rob Edwards said to Yerson Mosquera after chaotic Wolves display vs Man United

It wasn’t exactly a quiet evening for Yerson Mosquera as Wolves held Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Old Gold halted their losing run in the Premier League last night, drawing 1-1 with the Red Devils.

Rob Edwards’ side put in a really respectable away performance that might have led to three points on another night.

Wolves created chances throughout, and were also pretty good on the ball.

The lineup from Edwards featured Jhon Arias and Mateus Mane as a pair of number eights, and both players did well with Joao Gomes as the deepest midfielder.

Wolves were relatively solid at the back too, and Yerson Mosquera came in for praise from fans after the game.

And Edwards also liked what he saw.

Mosquera was a slight doubt to face United having struggled with cramp against Liverpool.

But he was back starting against the Red Devils, and Mosquera had a really good game on the whole.

The Colombia international did almost score an own goal that would have summed up Wolves’ season, but was bailed out by Jose Sa.

He also came so close to scoring a second goal for Wolves, but was beaten to the loose ball by United goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

Mosquera also had an embarrassing moment in the second-half when he wound up for a long throw into the box, only to go short and do a foul throw.

But Edwards was pleased with Mosquera. He said in his press conference after the game: “He’s interesting. I really like him. I just said ‘You’re mad you are’, it was him who nearly got the goal, the big chance in the second-half, I just thought ‘What’s he doing there?!’

“But then he’s almost headed one in for us at the other end! And then the throw, we’re expecting the long throw and he thinks at the last second to throw it to Doc short.

“But he’s got some outstanding qualities as well. I was just trying to say in that second-half ‘Calm, calm’. He’s a passionate guy and he plays on the edge a little bit. I really like him, he’s got a heart of gold and his effort level is right there. he’s fully, fully with it and trying really hard. He showed some brilliant things tonight. I really like Yerson, he keeps us on our toes.”

Mosquera must rein in the chaos a little

Mosquera was one of Wolves’ best players last night.

It was great to see him being so solid defensively. As per Sofascore, he made a whopping 14 defensive contributions – the most of any player in the game.

Thoughts on that performance, Wolves fans? 🤔

And he often strode forward in an attempt to get Wolves on the front foot.

Mosquera has always been a player who has played on the edge. Sometimes he is overly chaotic and rash, and he perhaps does at times need to curb his enthusiasm.

But only slightly, because Mosquera feels like a player opposition attackers would absolutely hate facing.
