What Rob Edwards has told the Wolves players as Marshall Munetsi drops emphatic verdict

Wolves fans have just a few more days to wait until Rob Edwards’ first game against Crystal Palace – and Marshall Munetsi’s verdict of the new manager is very encouraging.

Wolves are hoping to get their season started this weekend and finally pick up that elusive first Premier League win.

It has been a disastrous season so far, with Vitor Pereira paying the price with his job at the start of the month.

Are you confident Rob Edwards will help Wolves avoid relegation?

Pereira’s position as Wolves head coach had simply become untenable, with Fosun reluctantly sacking him just weeks after handing him a new contract.

Rob Edwards now has a huge job on his hands.

There are many issues he has to fix if Wolves are to get out of this mess, but there is confidence that Edwards can unite the club.

So far, Edwards’ arrival seems to have gone down well with the players, with Marshall Munetsi the latest to lavish praise on the new manager.

Matt Doherty has called on his Wolves teammates to buy into Edwards, who is looking for a fast start.

Doherty has told Edwards he can lean on him, and the Irishman is very clearly a big fan of the appointment.

Youngster Mateus Mane is also a fan of the Edwards appointment, and has noted how the new manager is a fan of hardworking players.

Now, Munetsi – who Wolves requested not to join up with Zimbabwe this international break – has spoken about Edwards, and he is certainly impressed.

He said: “It’s been amazing. The way he has had instant impact, because he’s a person who knows the club, so for him coming in, he really knows what he’s doing and his training sessions are really good.

“He has also addressed some of the key areas that we need to improve, and those are some of the things that he really specified that we need to improve on and work on.

“That’s something that we also need to implement as players to make sure that we improve the whole team in general.”

Munetsi also shared the key message that Edwards has been drumming into them, which is that he wants more solidity and to get more clean sheets.

“He has really spoken about us being more solid, trying to keep more clean sheets, because we’ve been conceding a lot of goals,” he added. “Those are some of the key areas that come Saturday we really need to show what we have been training with him this this week.”

Edwards must emulate Vitor Pereira’s early months at Wolves

The current situation is not too dissimilar to last year under Gary O’Neil.

Wolves have massively struggled to get points on the board, and confidence is very low at the moment.

We haven’t seen emotional spillovers and there has been more of a togetherness this time around. But despite that, Edwards will need to galvanise these players, just like Pereira did so well in his first months in the job.

Improving the mood is going to be crucial, and there are one or two players in that squad he’ll probably need to get his arm around.

Then it’s about building momentum, as Pereira did. Just one win could really be such a catalyst.

That said, Edwards has a difficult start in terms of the fixtures, so fans may have to be a little patient before we see positive change.
