The Rob Edwards era has officially begun at Wolves, and the appointment could have significance for Jorge Mendes.
Wolves announced Edwards as Vitor Pereira’s successor on Wednesday afternoon, following days of talks.
Wolves moved for Edwards after Gary O’Neil declined the role, and the club have forked out around £3 million in compensation to Middlesbrough.
Edwards has come in for all kinds of stick for his decision to walk away from Boro.
But what’s done is done, and Wolves fans are really hoping the 42-year-old can work some magic and keep the club in the Premier League.
Very soon, talk of transfers and recruitment will ramp up ahead of the January transfer window.
And following the appointment there has now been a suggestion about Jorge Mendes.
Wolves don’t want to rely on Jorge Mendes and Gestifute

It is clear to see now that Wolves did not have a very good window in the summer of 2025.
Following a restructure, Wolves appointed Domenico Teti as director of professional football, and he and Pereira were at the forefront of player recruitment.
In fact, it was suggested that Wolves ignored their recruitment team to bend to Teti and Pereira’s alternative targets.
But it seems that change could be on the horizon.
It’s been claimed that the recruitment team will have more responsibility now.
And the Telegraph has now reported that Fosun will look at internal solutions, and they don’t want to rely on external influences such as Jorge Mendes and his Gestifute agency.
This will be music to a lot of Wolves fans’ ears, as many feel Mendes is no longer good for the club.
Are you confident Rob Edwards will help Wolves avoid relegation?
Wolves fans have had Mendes’ card marked since Jorgen Strand Larsen claim
There is no doubt that Mendes played a big part in Wolves’ success in those first two seasons after the club gained promotion back to the Premier League in 2018.
However in more recent times, Wolves have done some bad deals that were influenced by Mendes.
In the summer of 2025, Wolves decided to go back to working closely with Mendes.

But it was a poor window, and there was also another thing that reportedly happened that really annoyed fans.
It was claimed that Mendes was actually pushing Jorgen Strand Larsen to Newcastle United, even though Jeff Shi had adopted a no-sell stance.
This caused many to brand Mendes self-serving, and someone the club can no longer be turning to on a regular basis.
