What Olympiacos fans just chanted in first home game about Wolves ace Daniel Podence

Wolves are expected to have a busy end to the week in the summer transfer window, with several players linked.

Focus will not only be on departures for Gary O’Neil’s side, who are poised to part ways with a number of squad members before the transfer window closes.

One name who has been linked with a move away is Daniel Podence, who is generating interest from a range of clubs.

The winger made a statement last season on loan with his former club Olympiacos, who have made it clear that they want to re-sign the 28-year-old.

Olympiacos fans called for Daniel Podence in first home game of the season

On Monday evening, Olympiacos played their first home game against Kallithea, winning 2-1 to add to their opening day league win.

While supporters were focused on the game, those attending the match made it clear what they want to see their club do before deadline day.

As reported by journalist Konstantinos Lianos, Olymapicos fans were singing Podence’s name during the fixture, signalling that they want the winger to return to the club permanently this summer.

Lianos added that while there’s been no official bid from the Greek side, there is ‘strong interest and talks’ from Olympiacos when it comes to their desire to sign the Wolves ace.

After returning on loan last season and contributing to a mammoth 28 goals, as well as winning the Europa Conference League, it’s understandable why fans are so keen for their club to reunite with Podence.

Wolves have several names to offload

At the start of the summer, it seemed certain that Podence would leave Molineux after being sent on loan by O’Neil last year.

Now that the season has started and the 28-year-old spent the majority of pre-season around the squad, a transfer has become less obvious.

That doesn’t mean to say that Podence won’t be axed however, O’Neil seems to be considering what the winger could offer, having played him in both of Wolves’ opening two Premier League fixtures.

The Portugal international isn’t the only player whose future at Wolves is under question, with Goncalo Guedes and Fabio Silva in a very similar situation.

All three players spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan, giving Matt Hobbs and O’Neil decisions to make with a look towards the remainder of the season.

Wolves are expected to ask for a fee in the region of £10m for Podence, who would certainly please Olympiacos fans if he were to return to Piraeus.
