What Norwegian media made of David Moller Wolfe vs Italy as Wolves ace channels Leonardo Bonucci

Wolves’ David Moller Wolfe will be going to the World Cup next year, after Norway topped their qualifying group in style.

Stale Solbakken has guided Norway to their first World Cup in 28 years following a stunning campaign that saw them win every match.

Norway had all but assured their place after their win over Estonia, but last night there was confirmation following an emphatic 4-1 win over Italy.

Erling Haaland was the star of the show once again for Norway, scoring a brace.

But Wolves’ Jorgen Strand Larsen was also on target for Norway in injury-time.

Strand Larsen only got a cameo at the end, but David Moller Wolfe played the majority of the match and made an impression.

Moller Wolfe has found minutes hard to come by at Wolves since his summer move from AZ Alkmaar.

Hugo Bueno was preferred by Vitor Pereira, with Moller Wolfe one of the least used Wolves players this season as a result.

But Moller Wolfe did catch the eye recently when he scored a brace for Wolves in the 4-3 Carabao Cup defeat to Chelsea.

And he’s now followed that up with two good performances over the international break for Norway.

Moller Wolfe shone against Estonia in the 4-1 win and last night, he also came in for praise mainly for his second-half showing in the win over Italy.

The publication also highlighted a moment where he channelled legendary Italian defender Leonardo Bonucci.

Nettavisen said of him: “Struggled on his left side before half-time. Few offensive contributions, and was also told by Solbakken along the way for not taking enough risks in the build-up play. Better after the break, and put in a brilliant tackle on Retegui when he was on his way to the Norwegian defence after the break. Lovely pictures after the tackle when the Wolves full-back celebrated the action in true Leonardo Bonucci fashion. Rock-solid second half.”

Dagbladet added: “Did a solid job together with the rest of the defence. Worked tirelessly and made sure only one backwards.”

Watch out Hugo Bueno

It has been a positive past few weeks for Moller Wolfe, who will surely now be eyeing that left back/left wing-back spot for Wolves.

Hugo Bueno has enjoyed a really good start, but the Spaniard will now have to watch his back with Moller Wolfe playing his way into a bit of form.

His strong international break may well have put new manager Rob Edwards on alert, as he mulls over which starting XI to go with against Crystal Palace.

Bueno would like to hope that he will get the nod, given his generally good form this term.

But we’ll see what Edwards decides to do – it’s actually not totally out of the question he will decide to use both, with one potentially as a winger.
