What Nathan Judah and Tim Spiers think should happen with Wolves’ Mateus Mane, but won’t

Nathan Judah and Tim Spiers believe Mateus Mane looks tired for Wolves, but feel Rob Edwards won’t rest him against Brentford.

Wolves are back in Premier League action on Monday against the Bees.

After beating Aston Villa and Liverpool in their last two games, there is real optimism about another three points.

And it will have to be three points, if the Old Gold really are to mount the greatest of escapes.

One man who’s featured heavily for Wolves of late is Mateus Mane, and some have called for the youngster to be rotated.

Journalists Nathan Judah and Tim Spiers are both in that camp, but feel there’s one key reason why he won’t.

Speaking on The Wolves Poddy with Judah and Spiers, Spiers said: “We’ve seen a bit of a slight downturn.

“He’s only had two shots since the Forest match. He’s also won no tackles since the Forest game. His number of crosses in matches has gone down. No goals or assists since that initial burst against West Ham and Everton.

“This is not me criticising him whatsoever, but I’m just pointing out, he’s burning out. He’s being burned out.”

Judah said: “It’s an interesting one because if you’re Rob Edwards and you’ve seen this huge gap after Brentford, then I think he’ll play Mane (vs Brentford), I genuinely do. I’ll be stunned if he doesn’t.

“He’ll see this break and say well this is the break everyone needs and what Mane needs, but can I get a little bit more out of you. I think it’s the wrong decision to play Mane.

Spiers added: “I completely agree with you to be honest and I agree with you that he probably won’t do it. Probably owing to the fact there’s a bit of extra time between matches, a 10 day break in total. He looks far less sharper and is having far less of an impact on the game.”

Rodrigo Gomes or Hwang Hee-chan could replace Mane

We know how highly Edwards thinks of Mane.

But there are a couple of players who could come in for him against Brentford.

Rodrigo Gomes scored in the wins over Villa and Liverpool and will be relatively fresh.

Hwang Hee-chan is also an option having recently returned from injury.

But as Judah suggests, the big break after this game may well see Edwards just try and squeeze a little bit more out of Mane. Hopefully he can come up with something if that’s the case.
