What Nasser Djiga does in games sometimes that could quickly see him become a Wolves cult hero

Wolves have a new centre-back on their books, with Nasser Djiga joining from Red Star Belgrade.

It was a busy end to the January transfer window for the club in the end, with two new faces arriving on deadline day.

Marshall Munetsi completed his move to Wolves from Reims.

But just before that, Wolves announced the signing of Nasser Djiga from Red Star, with the Burkina Faso international the club’s second centre-back signing of the window after Emmanuel Agbadou.

Wolves always wanted to hand Vitor Pereira two new defensive recruits in January.

And, after Wolves missed out on Kevin Danso to Tottenham Hotspur, the eventually got one in – and one suspects Djiga could be a popular signing.

Matt Hobbs has described Djiga as a ‘quick’ and ‘aggressive’ defender.

It will be interesting to see where in the backline he plays.

With Toti Gomes and Emmanuel Agbadou having looked so strong in their respective positions against Aston Villa, it might be that Djiga is seen as an option for the right side.

But he will first have to dislodge Matt Doherty, who’s been a regular under Pereira.

Earlier today, Wolves released some information about Djiga regarding his style of play – and there’s one thing the 22-year-old does in games sometimes that will quickly endear him to the Molineux faithful.

Wolves say in their scout report of the player via their official website: “As a quick and aggressive centre-back, Djiga has been known to celebrate his tackles as much as strikers celebrate their goals, displaying his commitment to keeping the ball out of the net.”

It is something out of the Joao Gomes textbook, with the Brazilian also one to react sometimes when he makes a big challenge that helps Wolves out.

And of course, most Wolves fans absolutely adore Gomes for doing things like this.

Djiga could become a Wolves cult hero

If there is one trait that Wolves fans love in a player, it’s commitment.

By the sounds of this, Djiga is passionate character who loves the art of defending and that is potentially going to make him very popular at Molineux.

Wolves fans love their maverick players, like Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri.

But supporters have always had soft spots for defenders who are committed to the cause, like Romain Saiss before he left in 2022.
