What Julen Lopetegui is planning to do now after quitting Wolves

Julen Lopetegui is now out of work after quitting Wolves earlier this week.

The Spaniard officially left Molineux on Tuesday, after reaching an agreement with the club to end his contract.

Lopetegui had actually informed sporting director Matt Hobbs straight after the Celtic game that he wanted out.

He agreed to manage the team against Luton Town and Rennes to allow Wolves time to find a successor.

Their search led them to Gary O’Neil, who was the outstanding candidate.

O’Neil now has a huge task on his hands.

He’s had just a few days with his new players, and he takes them to Old Trafford tomorrow night to try and cause a big upset.

The fans will get behind him, but there is definitely a huge sense of concern within the fanbase right now.

So the Lopetegui era is over, and there is a real sense of sadness about the way it came to an end.

The club spent so long chasing him, and it is all over after nine months.

It’s going to sting if Lopetegui bags another job relatively quickly.

And it would seem that may be something that is on his mind.

Because The Athletic reported yesterday that the 56-year-old is actually now planning to stay in the UK, at least for the time being.

This is interesting, because it is very common for manager’s to return to their homeland after leaving an overseas club.

This would suggest he feels he has unfinished business in the Premier League.

Lopetegui has previously raved over the English top-flight.

So seemingly, he would be receptive to approaches from clubs that may sack their manager early.

Lopetegui managing another Premier League club will sting

It would be very frustrating to see Lopetegui pitch up at another Premier League club.

His work at Wolves was very good and he will undoubtedly have interest if a club becomes managerless.

It is very possible that one of the top clubs could come calling.

And if that happens, he would have the money to spend that he did not this summer at Wolves.
