What Jeff Shi told Rob Edwards privately about his vision for Wolves

Wolves fans had the pleasure of hearing from new manager Rob Edwards for the first time after being appointed by Jeff Shi at Molineux.

It’s safe to say that Wolves fans are rather sceptical about how Rob Edwards will fare, and who can blame them after the recent appointments.

Vitor Pereira didn’t exactly pull up trees after being offered fresh new terms out of the blue, with Wolves still winless after 11 games in the Premier League.

And the fact that Gary O’Neil was even being considered for a return to Molineux says it all about where this club is currently heading under Fosun.

But, they’ve made their choice in Rob Edwards, and the first impression he has left in his first interview is certainly a good one.

Are you confident Rob Edwards will help Wolves avoid relegation?

Jeff Shi’s vision for Rob Edwards and Wolves

Wolves fan groups publicly criticised Fosun and the way they have run the club in recent years in the form of an open letter earlier on this week.

They mentioned ambition, identity and good decision-making as weak points under the current ownership, as fans awaited a response.

Whilst there have been no promises of change made at this moment in time, fans did get an insight into where Jeff Shi stands behind the scenes at Wolves.

Speaking in his first interview since becoming Wolves boss, Rob Edwards shared the two words Jeff Shi privately stated to him.

“Jeff talked to me about a reset moment. It’s an opportunity for us now. I know we’re in a difficult spot. I get that. But it’s an opportunity here for us. There’s still 27 games to go, and it’s an opportunity here for us to do something really special. Really special. And um that appeals to me.

“I’ve always been a risk-taker. You know, and I’ve always wanted this job. And you don’t know if it’s ever going to come along again. And the opportunity was there right now.

“Yeah, Jeff spoke about this reset opportunity now as a chance for us still. Of course, I know that it’s going to be difficult, but there’s an opportunity for us to maintain our Premier League status this year and then grow and continue to grow and build as well. So, short-term, that’s got to be our aim.”

It’s time for Fosun to sell up and move on

It doesn’t take a genius to realise that the way Wolves are being run isn’t sustainable, and the cracks are starting to appear.

Shi has been called out by Wolves fans on various occasions in recent months, with summer transfer window decisions, Jorge Mendes’ influence and a lack of direction just three of the many issues.

What really rubbed salt into the wounds was the fact that Fosun supposedly turned down an offer to buy Wolves from John Textor, which points towards them wanting a long-term stay at Molineux.

Rob Edwards is certainly a step in the right direction for now, and he has the core values needed to really drive the club in the right direction, but Fosun simply have to provide the foundations for success.
