Wolves suffered another defeat last night, and the pressure continues to increase on manager Vitor Pereira.
The club’s Carabao Cup journey came to an end after a 4-3 defeat to Chelsea at Molineux.
It was a pulsating game, which Wolves started really poorly and finished well. Vitor Pereira will hope the spirit shown in the second-half will serve as a catalyst.
But it was yet another defeat for the Portuguese, and he can ill afford another this weekend against Fulham.
It does look as though the under pressure Pereira will get that game, with an interesting report from the Telegraph surfacing this morning.

Jeff Shi ‘convinced’ Vitor Pereira situation at Wolves is different to Gary O’Neil a year ago

Comparisons have been made to last season, when Gary O’Neil really struggled to get results on the board, with Pereira now having the same issue.
In the end, O’Neil was sacked by the board following a home defeat to Ipswich Town in December.
Many fans felt he should have gone weeks early, but the hierarchy persisted in the hope he would turn things around.
Pereira is now under big pressure at Molineux.
But the Telegraph have reported about the current internal feeling about Pereira, and chairman Jeff Shi is still behind him, feeling this situation is different to last season.
The publication report that Shi is actually ‘convinced’ the situation is different, and feels ‘Pereira still has the backing of his squad’.
It’s stated that there is a feeling behind the scenes that things are improving under the Portuguese.
Shi is also apparently said to be ‘tired of the cycle’ of changing managers, which is another reason Pereira remains at the helm despite poor results.
Fosun and Jeff Shi are taking a major risk

This information will likely not go down well with a lot of Wolves fans given how poor results and performances have been.
Yes, there have been glimmers of hope. The three-game unbeaten run recently was cause for optimism, but then Wolves could not build on that, losing to Sunderland and then Burnley.

We did see some good fight last night against Chelsea, which does suggest the players are still on board with the manager.
However, it’s a results business. And Wolves remain winless in the Premier League, are six points from safety and are now out of the Carabao Cup. Pereira has undoubtedly made a lot of mistakes this term which have contributed to Wolves’ current position.
With Wolves’ squad looking a lot weaker in terms of quality compared to last term, Fosun and Shi really are sticking their necks out backing Pereira. But perhaps they have to, after they handed him that new contract only last month.
