What Jamie Vardy once said after mocking Wolves fans as Leicester City star announces exit

Wolves host Leicester City in the Premier League on Saturday, and it will be an emotional day for Jamie Vardy.

When Vitor Pereira took charge of the club in December, his assignment was overseeing Wolves 3-0 win over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

Pereira made history in that clash, becoming the first-ever Wolves manager to hold a 3-0 lead in the first half of a Premier League match.

Since that day, the Wanderers have been transformed and have flown up to 15th in the table, creating a huge 17-point buffer on the bottom three.

While the good times have returned to Molineux, the same can’t be said for Leicester, who are winless in their last 12 and have now watched Jamie Vardy announce his departure.

Jamie Vardy once mocked Wolves fans with wolf celebration

On Thursday, legendary Foxes striker Vardy has revealed he will be leaving the King Power Stadium once his contract expires in the summer.

The 38-year-old has become inarguably their greatest striker ever by firing them to two Championship titles, a Premier League title, an FA Cup triumph, and even a run to the Champions League quarter-finals.

Vardy is adored by the Leicester fanbase, and there were a few tears shed when the news filtered through. However, Wolves fans have a reason to dislike the Englishman, and not just for the times he’s scored against them.

In October 2022, Vardy became the first player to reach 100 Premier League goals after turning 30, netting the goal in a 4-0 thrashing of the Old Gold at Molineux.

After being pictured downing a Red Bull on the sidelines, the veteran came off the bench to score and marked the occasion by howling in front of the Wolves fans.

It wasn’t the only time Vardy howled like a wolf in front of the opposition supporters, doing so in August 2021, as he scored the winner in a 1-0 victory.

Speaking after the game, the striker said: “It’s one of them, it’s all instincts. You do what comes to your mind at the first moment. A good celebration, but I’m just delighted to get the three points.”

Vardy’s goal record against Wolves

Although Vardy is one of the most prolific strikers in Premier League history, his record against Wolves isn’t that impressive.

In 13 matches against the Wanderers, he’s only scored on three occasions, which perhaps explains why he goes over the top with celebrations as it’s not often he puts one past them.

This weekend, following the news of his departure, he will be extra motivated to grab his fourth in this fixture, although the physicality of Emmanuel Agbadou and Toti Gomes should be able to shackle him.

Vardy is also closing in on 200 goals for Leicester, needing two in his final five games to reach that landmark.

So, while the Foxes have nothing to play for, there is added incentive for the veteran to bow out in style.
