Hwang Hee-chan has signed a new contract with Wolves, with an official announcement from the club now imminent.

It was reported earlier this week that an agreement had been reached with the South Korea international.

Gary O’Neil has been speaking to the media today and confirmed that the 27-year-old has indeed agreed fresh terms with the club, following his amazing start to the 2023/24 season.

A new deal is no less than Hwang deserves.

He has been superb this season for Wolves, having scored nine goals across all competitions.

As good a player as Hwang is, he is also a very hardworking and also humble individual.

There has never been a hint of an ego with Hwang, who works his socks off every game. He also conducts himself extremely well off the pitch, regularly giving up his time for fans and journalists.

Having humility can always help one to succeed, and today, O’Neil shared what Hwang did yesterday amid the news of his new contract.

He said (The Athletic): “We’re delighted for him because he’s worked extremely hard and given me and the staff and his teammates absolutely everything since I’ve been here.

“And he has scored some really important goals. I’m delighted for the club to secure his services for longer.

“He’s a great guy and he came looking for me and the staff yesterday to thank us all for the hard work that we’ve done with him to help him earn his new contract.

“That just speaks a lot about what kind of guy he is and how important he is to the group.”

A top player and a top person

It is lovely to hear that Hwang went and sought out the people who have helped him to become a real star at Wolves.

Obviously, he’s worked very hard himself but credit absolutely must go to O’Neil and his coaching staff for what they have done with him.

Before O’Neil’s arrival, Hwang was a good player for Wolves but did lack consistency. He is now regularly showing himself to be one of the most important players Wolves have.

Clearly, it’s not lost on Hwang what a huge impact O’Neil and his staff have had on him and it’s fantastic he went and thanked them especially.
