What Fosun are expected to do in the Championship if Wolves fail to stay up

Relegation for Wolves looks to be extremely likely, and any chance of survival will only arrive through a miracle.

After eight successive seasons in the Premier League, the Old Gold are projected to go down. There have been warning signs over the last few seasons, but the selling of the club’s best players and replacing them with inferior ones has finally come back to haunt the owners.

Rob Edwards has been brought in to steady the ship, but he has been handed an incredibly hard job.

Wolves icon Steve Bull believes Edwards must at least give performances to be proud of, as relegation looms.

And now, how the owners are looking to tackle the Championship next season has been revealed.

If the Old Gold do get relegated, as seems to be the most likely outcome, then fans will be hoping for a swift return.

However, they would also see some of their top stars depart in the summer, such as Andre and Joao Gomes.

The Brazilian duo have been linked with Manchester United, and players of that quality are not expected to stick around for a season in the second tier.

With that in mind, the owners seem to be willing to provide the squad with the necessary additions to come straight back up.

In an article by the Telegraph, it says that Fosun insiders have stated, “They say they will have a good go at getting Wolves promoted next season.”

However, Jeff Shi did believe the 2025 summer was a ‘good window’, so there will be little hope among fans that they can provide one in the following year.

Fosun surprised about fan assumptions about their ownership

The Wolves’ ownership is also said to be shocked at suggestions they are using the club as a vessel to further their esports brand.

Fans have been critical that the use of the Wolverhampton Wanderers logo is one of the main reasons they had bought the club, and that the football comes second.

However, the same article states, “Now at odds with their fans, some doomsday theories abound, including one about the club’s identity being sold to an esports venture. Fosun insiders say the club, led by chairman Jeff Shi, are bewildered why that has gained traction.”

While they may be surprised at that assumption, the ownership has done little to help downplay those suggestions after one recent move with the Wolves esports team led to backlash.
