What Enso Gonzalez did for Wolves U21s last night as Gary O’Neil watched on

The Wolves U21s were in action last night – and Enso Gonzalez featured for James Collins’ side against PSV Eindhoven.

Wolves secured a 2-1 victory over International Cup holders PSV at Molineux.

Prior to the game, Collins had talked up PSV as being one of the best youth sides around.

So this was an impressive result for his youngsters.

Kam Kandola and Nathan Fraser got the goals for the hosts, with both coming in the final 20 minutes.

PSV did score in the 85th minute through Tai Abed, but it turned out to be a mere consolation.

So, a great win for the Wolves U21s – and there was an decent outing for one of Wolves’ summer signings Enso Gonzalez, and in front of a watching Gary O’Neil…

Enso Gonzalez gets an assist as he catches the eye for Wolves’ U21s

Gonzalez joined Wolves from Libertad at the end of the summer window.

So far, he has not yet had any first-team chances.

Gary O’Neil has said that he needs a lot of work before that chance comes.

Gonzalez did feature for the U21s against Leeds United at the start of the month.

And he was back starting again last night at Molineux, and the Paraguayan showed some good touches.

In the early stages he looked lively, cutting inside from the right and beating a couple of players before finding Harry Birtwistle on the overlap.

He lost the ball cheaply at times, but on the whole he was bright. He played for 73 minutes before being replaced by Ty Barnett.

And it was partly thanks to him Wolves got their noses in front. His brilliant corner found the excellent Kandola, who headed home at the back post.

A good night for Enso

Currently it is about Gonzalez just getting a feel for English football.

He’s taken the very bold decision to come over from Paraguayan to try and become a success at a big club in England.

It is going to take some time for him to settle and adapt.

But he appears to have made an impression in these first outings for the U21s.

It was good that O’Neil was there watching last night. The view is that Gonzalez will eventually be a proper first-teamer, so it was good that he could make a significant contribution in front of the head coach.
