Wolves unveiled Domenico Teti as the club’s new director of football, but what does the hire mean for Vitor Pereira?
In a shock twist, Wolves announced a restructuring behind the scenes, a change that saw sporting director Matt Hobbs depart the club.
Hobbs played a role in some impressive and poor transfers during his time in the West Midlands, with the club opting for a mix-up amid a pivotal 2025 summer transfer window.
Though the sporting director role has been dissolved, the director of football job has been put in place, with Teti announced as the man to fill the vacancy.

What Domenico Teti’s arrival means for Vitor Pereira
Wolves fans were unhappy with the announcement of the restructuring, as chairman Jeff Shi’s involvement was reinforced as paramount.
All members of staff will report to Shi, including Teti, whose arrival as director of football came as a surprise.
Teti is excited to get to work at Wolves, but to many, what his role will actually entail from a football point of view is considered a mystery.
Fortunately, Express and Star reporter Liam Keen dissected the impact that Teti could have on Pereira, noting that the pair have worked together before.
Keen expressed that it will be valuable for Pereira to work closely with a figure he has ‘full faith in’, adding that the Italian will be part of communicating the manager’s requests.
Amid the concern of a ‘power struggle’ that the manager could face, Keen explained that Teti could be the person to assist the boss in talking to potential targets wanted by the coach.
The Wolves expert stressed that the way in which the new structure will actually work is yet to be determined, given how early the club are in their transition.
Perhaps the most poignant part of Keen’s verdict was that Wolves’ new director of football will ‘only benefit’ Pereira, who will want to maintain a considerable say on the transfer and business front.
Teti’s previous roles
Like Pereira, Teti arrives at Wolves following a spell in Saudi Arabia with Al-Shabab.
Club | Role |
Al-Shabab | Sporting director |
APOEL Nicosia | Sporting director |
Novara | Sporting director |
Sampdoria | Technical director |
FC Lugano | Sporting director |
Hellas Verona | Academy manager |
The Italian oversaw sporting director roles at APOEL Nicosia, Novara and FC Lugano before his venture in the Middle East.
As well as holding the title of sporting director, Teti was technical director at Sampdoria, starting his career as academy manager at Hellas Verona.
As Shi said when unveiling Teti, the businessman has a lot of experience under his belt, but his impact on Wolves is yet to be seen.
