Daniel Podence could certainly be awe-inspiring at times when he played for Wolves, and the former Molineux star made headlines at the weekend with an outstanding goal.
Daniel Podence left Wolves in the summer of 2023, joining Olympiacos on loan.
He then returned to feature in Wolves’ pre-season, and there was some talk about Podence reintegrating.
But he then joined Saudi Pro League club Al-Shabab, which was a move that rather came out of the blue.
Upon leaving, Podence admitted the Wolves project was no longer for him.
During his time at Wolves, Podence regularly lit up Molineux with his footwork and technical ability. He could also really frustrate.
But on his day he could do truly special things – and the 29-year-old had one of those days on Saturday.

Daniel Podence back with a bang at Olympiacos

Podence actually sealed a loan move back to Olympiacos before the international break.
Olympiacos had wanted to sign Podence permanently after his loan spell, but a move didn’t materialise.
He is adored there, and Podence showed on Saturday why they love him so much.
The star came off the bench for Olympiacos in their game against Panserraikos and made two contributions in the 5-0 win.
And one of those contributions came in the form of a stunning goal.
Within two minutes of coming off the bench, Podence picked the ball up and rifled it into the bottom corner from all of 30 yards.
It was impressive in that, Podence first had the ball on the corner of the penalty area. He then dribbled backwards, and actually struck the ball as it was rolling away from him. But despite the awkward roll, he whipped his foot around it and lashed it into the corner.
Podence then grabbed an assist, playing a lovely through ball for Mehdi Taremi to convert.
Wolves miss Podence so much now
The goal from Podence was a reminder of how he can provide moments of magic.
He could often frustrate at Wolves. The star was known for lacking emotional control, and sometimes wound fans up with his theatrics.
But he was also a player you knew could make something happen, and provided some big moments in a Wolves shirt – and at the moment, there aren’t many players in the squad who can do that.
In these opening four games, fans have been crying out for someone to just take the ball and do something special.
There has been a real lack of threat in the final third, and hopefully Vitor Pereira will solve this issue as quickly as possible.
Podence is sadly no longer a Wolves player. But hopefully, the likes of Fer Lopez and Jhon Arias will become game-changers at Molineux.
