What Aston Villa fans make of Evann Guessand is very interesting after Wolves transfer links

Wolves had a very questionable transfer window, and one player who did not end up signing for the club was Evann Guessand.

Wolves brought in six new faces and turned Jorgen Strand Larsen’s move to the club permanent.

Three new attackers came in; Fer Lopez, Jhon Arias and Tolu Arokodare.

The hope is that the trio will be able to deliver goals for Wolves, and replace the output lost by the likes of Matheus Cunha, Pablo Sarabia, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Goncalo Guedes.

At one point in the window, Wolves were linked with a move for Evann Guessand.

It was claimed Wolves had made a bid for Guessand, but in the end a move did not materialise and he ended up signing for Aston Villa.

Last night, after Villa’s Carabao Cup defeat to Brentford on penalties, Villa fans had some strong opinions about Guessand.

Some Wolves fans really wanted to see Guessand come to Molineux.

Last term, he was superb for Nice, scoring 13 goals and making 10 assists in 42 appearances.

But it seems it’s been a slow start for the Ivorian at Villa Park.

Last night, Guessand struggled. The Birmingham Mail gave him a 4/10 for his display, saying: “Guessand made his fourth consecutive appearance for his new club. He rotated with Elliott, playing both off the right and in the number 10 role.

“His first touch wasn’t always crisp. It might have been interesting to see him deployed centrally as a number nine, given his physical presence.”

On social media, fans have not been impressed.

@AVFCTransTweet: “Guessand looks meh.”

@FPL_Villan: “Biggest concern at #avfc for me is that our new signing Guessand looks absolutely appalling.”

@GarySmithJnr: “It’s very early days, but I’ve not been convinced at all by Guessand.”

@PhilKeenan11: “Guessand ain’t that good is he really.”

@The_Tagmeister: “Guessand, early days I know but just doesn’t look anything special at all. Is he or Sancho going to produce more than Bailey would’ve?

Wolves potentially vindicated after not signing Guessand

It is obviously early days, but it’s interesting to see some Villa fans suggesting that Guessand doesn’t looks to be anything special.

Guessand was a player plenty of Wolves fans were clamouring to see the club sign, after the departure of Cunha.

Seemingly, Guessand was a potential replacement for Cunha in terms of being a powerful ball carrier, capable of scoring goals.

But seemingly so far he has not taken to English football.

We will see how he gets on – it may well be that he eventually comes good, after he was got to grips with a new way of playing.

Wolves officials will simply hope their signings of Arias, Lopez and Arokodare will mean there are ultimately no regrets over Guessand.
