Wolves recently handed Vitor Pereira a new contract – but Molineux News has learned that Jorge Mendes held talks with West Ham United over the Portuguese before that deal was finalised.
Wolves have endured a very tough start to the 2025/26 season.
So far, Wolves have lost all five of their Premier League games, and another difficult fixture lies in wait this weekend against Tottenham Hotspur.
Wolves have fared better in the Carabao Cup, reaching the fourth round after beating West Ham United and Everton.
But there is real concern at the moment, and Pereira has a huge job on his hands.
Vitor Pereira, though, is confident of turning things around, believing just one good result will change the picture.
And there is belief from the top in Pereira to work the same magic he did last season.
That is why they handed him a new contract – but this – we have learned – came after West Ham United expressed interest in the Portuguese.
Jorge Mendes held talks with West Ham United about Vitor Pereira before new Wolves deal

Like Wolves, West Ham United have really struggled so far this season.
The Hammers sit just one place above Wolves in the Premier League table, and Graham Potter’s job is currently in jeopardy.
A number of names have been mentioned as potential successors to Potter.
And Molineux News understands that West Ham held talks with Jorge Mendes about Pereira recently. It is believed that these talks took place not long before Pereira committed himself to a new long-term deal at Molineux.
Molineux News’ transfer expert Graeme Bailey said: “Wolves always had the idea of keeping Pereira. Obviously the fact another club showed an interest meant the talks accelerated but with Pereira himself, I’m told he was never looking to leave the club.”
Since Pereira’s new deal, West Ham have held talks with another Mendes client in the shape of Nuno Espirito Santo.

Mendes not currently in Wolves fans’ good books
This information will again have Wolves fans questioning if working so closely with Mendes is really a good thing for Wolves.
We know he has facilitated some player deals in the past that have turned out to be big success stories.
This summer, after Wolves restructured their recruitment division which saw Matt Hobbs leave, Mendes has been very involved at Molineux. And he’s been involved in two situations that have drawn him some criticism.

Mendes apparently gave encouragement to Newcastle over Jorgen Strand Larsen at the end of the summer transfer window, even though Jeff Shi and other Wolves officials were adamant he would not be sold.
And it was also reported that Christantus Uche and his agent didn’t appreciate Mendes’ behaviour when Wolves were trying to sign him from Getafe.
The Nigerian then ended up signing for Crystal Palace.
