‘We’re hearing’: Gary O’Neil won’t be picking £5m player for Wolves any time soon

Wolves youngster Enso Gonzalez will need time to settle in at the club, according to journalist Liam Keen, who has shared the feeling about the Paraguayan on the latest E&S podcast.

Gonzalez joined Wolves from Libertad the day before deadline, for around £5 million.

After having success with the signing of Joao Gomes, Wolves dipped into the South American market once again in the summer.

Gonzalez signed, as did Santi Bueno the Uruguay international.

So far, Gonzalez has not yet made his first-team debut. And he has been on the bench only a couple of times. Some did expect him to have some involvement against Ipswich Town in the Carabao Cup, but he was only named on the bench and didn’t get on.

He played for the U21s recently against Leeds – and it seems he may be turning out for James Collins’ side a few more times before he gets a chance under Gary O’Neil…

Fans hoping to see him get chances in the first-team are going to have to be patient.

Keen said: “It’s very much a case of, 18-year-old lad moving over from Paraguay. New culture, new language, new football. He needs a lot of time by the sounds of it to get up to speed.

“Obviously he was on the bench at Palace not long after signing, but that was more just a case of ‘we need someone on the bench’ rather than him ever having a chance of coming on, by the looks of it.

“I don’t expect we’ll see a lot of him in the Premier League this season. Things do change quickly. But from what we’re hearing at the moment, it’s very much a case of ‘give him time, let him get used to his surroundings, and see how he gets on’.

Patience required over Enso

Wolves are excited about their capture of Gonzalez, but it sounds like it’s going to be a while before we see him in the first-team.

Keen added that for the U21s, Gonzalez showed flashes of his talent, but also showed why he isn’t knocking on the door for a first-team chance yet.

Gonzalez is very bright prospect.

Hopefully in the second half of the season he’ll be at a point where he can come in and make an impact.

It’s likely by then, the likes of Pedro Neto and Hwang Hee-chan will likely needed resting a bit more.
