Watch out Jackson Tchatchoua as Rob Edwards talks up rarely seen Wolves star

Rob Edwards has talked up Pedro Lima’s potential, in a verdict that could have significance for Jackson Tchatchoua.

The 19-year-old has come on in a few games for Wolves since returning from his loan from FC Porto, suggesting that he’s a player Edwards likes.

But Pedro Lima has now been backed publicly by his manager. And that level of endorsement is not handed out lightly, especially in a position where consistency has been an issue.

Edwards has already started using Lima when Wolves need width and delivery, introducing him late in games to try and change the attacking dynamic.

The decision to keep Lima at the club, rather than send him back out on loan was rather telling, with Wolves choosing development within the first-team environment over minutes elsewhere.

Of course, at the moment, Lima is still on the periphery. But Edwards’ new verdict suggests his involvement could soon increase.

Rob Edwards talks up Pedro Lima’s potential

Edwards has now made it clear that he likes Lima and sees potential in the youngster.

He said, as quoted by the E&S: “He’s very young and developing I think he’s got some really good skills. That’s why he’s come on in a couple of games late where we’ve needed a bit of width and a cross. He’s got a really good crossing ability, it’s his super strength.

“There’s some technical quality there. He’s still got lots to learn because he’s a young player, but he’s getting a lot of individual work as well with the guys. If some of the other right-backs and wing-backs are doing some work, he’s part of that as well.”

“He’ll be taking a lot on board at the moment, getting used to England and what the demands are here. But he’s certainly someone who athletically is very good and technically gifted as well.”

“He just has things to learn in-game, which is normal for any 19-year-old. They’re going to make mistakes, they’ve got lots to learn, but it’s really exciting as well when we’ve got some good young players in the building.”

“It’s great that they’re getting some of these experiences now as well because it’s only going to benefit them going forward.

“He’s ticking some boxes at the moment.”

Edwards also stated that Lima’s ‘athleticism and ability’ are two ‘big things’ for him at the moment, and talk of his athleticism is certainly interesting for Jackson Tchatchoua to consider.

A potentially worrying verdict for Jackson Tchatchoua

Jackson Tchatchoua has the physical profile to really excel as a right-back.

Earlier this season, Tchatchoua was recorded as the fastest player in the Premier League. That level of pace gives him an advantage in one-on-one situations that few defenders can match. Or so it should.

Many Wolves fans have remarked how Tchatchoua seems to have no willingness to take on defenders and stretch the pitch at times.

He has the tools to be a major weapon, but has arguably not shown his pace and athleticism often enough.

With Edwards praising Lima, perhaps this is an indication that Tchatchoua now needs to step up, or risk losing his starting spot.

The earlier decision to keep Lima at the club rather than send him back out on loan proves Edwards does rate Lima.

So Tchatchoua really needs to convert his physical strengths into consistent end product. Otherwise, Lima may end up replacing him.
