Vitor Pereira’s Wolves future in doubt amid discontent in the camp as huge Burnley clash looms

Wolves have made an awful start to the 2025/26 season – and Molineux News can now bring an update relating to Vitor Pereira and his future.

Fans didn’t expect too much this term once the fixture list was released and also seeing how the summer unfolded.

There was an exodus at Molineux that saw game-changing players like Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri leave, and experienced heads like Nelson Semedo and Pablo Sarabia.

Wolves brought in six new faces but all of them barring Ladislav Krejci are still getting up to speed.

The poor recruitment has not helped manager Vitor Pereira.

But Pereira has also not helped himself at times this season, having made some questionable in-game decisions that have arguably cost Wolves points.

Pereira has seemingly been in a fairly strong position in terms of his job security, having been backed with a new contract only last month. But many Wolves fans questioned the new contract for Pereira, suggesting the timing was wrong.

Despite that new contract, Molineux News can now reveal that the Wolves manager is actually in a bit of danger regarding his job.

Pereira did a superb job last season when he came in to succeed Gary O’Neil.

He steadied the ship and breathed new life into the football club, and also built a fantastic relationship with the supporters.

But the picture is now very different, with the Portuguese having really struggled to pick up results.

Wolves are winless this season in the Premier League, and have not tasted victory in the top-flight since against Leicester City on April 26.

Pereira may have signed a new deal last month, but Molineux News’ transfer expert Graeme Bailey says the 57-year-old’s job is now at risk despite him signing a new contract last month.

He said: “There are issues at Wolves, that can’t be denied. Vitor Pereira only signed his new deal a matter of weeks ago but I am told that won’t stop a change being made if it is needed.”

We understand that Wolves’ hierarchy have seen the likes of Sunderland and Brentford performing well and that has piled the pressure on.

While some players have put on a united front in public recently and shown defiance in interviews, Molineux News understands there is actually some discontent in the squad at the moment after the club’s difficult start.

Bailey continued: “I am told that all is not well in the camp and not all the squad are behind the way they are going about things, but I guess that is natural given the performances.”

Regarding Sunday’s game with Burnley, we understand it’s not totally out of the question that a defeat could cost Pereira his job.

Bailey said: “Sunday’s game is huge, if they lose the game – then nothing is off the table although the performance is also hugely important.”

Pereira needs statement win vs Burnley

The defeat to Sunderland was very concerning and now this game with Burnley has become huge for Wolves.

Some Wolves fans have already called for Pereira to be sacked, and there is no question that the pressure is mounting.

Fosun took a major risk by signing off on a new deal for Pereira. But it seems they aren’t about to stick with Pereira if the situation worsens.

Hopefully, the Portuguese can finally oversee a victory for Wolves in the Premier League to relieve some of the pressure. Paul Merson feels Wolves will beat Burnley, but it’s safe to say that many fans are not feeling too confident about Sunday’s massive game at Molineux.
