Vitor Pereira shares where he realistically thinks Wolves should aim to finish in the Premier League in 2025/26

Vitor Pereira made a big impression at Wolves in 2025 – and the hope for all fans now is that he can build on his work in 2025/26.

Last term, Vitor Pereira arrived at Molineux with one clear objective: to keep Wolves in the Premier League.

Wolves had got off to a horrendous start under Gary O’Neil, who was relieved of his duties in December.

Pereira came in and immediately set about steadying the ship for Wolves, and in the end – after making some really important signings in the transfer window – he was able to guide Wanderers to safety. And he built an instant connection with the supporters, with Wolves fans hailing Pereira’s passion.

Wolves finished 16th on 42 points, and now the goal will be to build on that.

Pereira has assured fans he’ll be staying at Wolves, despite some murmurs that he isn’t totally happy due to a lack of activity.

And he has shared where he thinks Wolves should be looking to finish next season.

Ultimately, most fans want to see Wolves challenging for European football again.

The last few years have been a struggle, with Wolves languishing in the bottom half of the table.

The investments that other clubs of a similar level and stature have made have seen Wolves start to lag behind.

It has been claimed ‘the penny has dropped’ for Wolves executives regarding the need to spend to improve, but we haven’t really seen Wolves really attack the window yet.

But hopefully that will happen soon.

Pereira has been asked about his hopes for the coming season, and believes that as things currently stand, finishing in and around mid-table is realistic.

He said in a new interview with the E&S: “To consolidate the club in the middle of the table without thinking about relegation and looking for the next step.

“I think we need a next step. I’m not a dreamer, I put in my mind the next target.

“The next target is to consolidate the team in the middle of the table, but looking at the teams in front of us and to think about the next step, to be one of them, to fight for something else.

“In my opinion, we need one more year to consolidate the team in the middle of the table and after we can think about something else.”

Mid-table finish is a sensible goal

Everybody wants to see Wolves get back in the mix for European football, but setting the goal of finishing in mid-table in 2025/26 is realistic and sensible.

Wolves have just finished 16th in the Premier League table, so to move up a few places and to finish safely in mid-table would represent decent progression.

Wolves’ finishes in the Premier League since promotion in 2018
2018/19 – 7th
2019/20 – 7th
2020/21 – 13th
2021/22 – 10th
2022/23 – 13th
2023/24 – 14th
2024/25 – 16th

It is going to be tricky to go much higher, because Wolves have lost game-changing players such as Matheus Cunha, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Pablo Sarabia.

That said, Pereira does suggest that Wolves can think about being a team who can push a bit higher. So there is scope for pushing on if Wolves find themselves in a healthy position.

But it is probably sensible for Pereira to set this particular goal at this moment in time.

Consolidating Wolves in mid-table would be good for 2025/26, although even that is going to depend on Wanderers having a strong transfer window.
