Vitor Pereira reveals why he ‘didn’t speak to’ Matheus Cunha after social media post – it worked for Wolves

Vitor Pereira has broken his silence on Matheus Cunha’s social media activity.

Before Wolves’ 4-2 win over Tottenham, there was a lot of talk regarding what Pereira’s star player had been posting on social media.

Cunha posted, then deleted a photo on Instagram, which sent some fans into a frenzy as he argued with supporters on the app.

Pereira made Cunha wait for his return as he rejected the chance to substitute the Brazilian on during the first half against Spurs, but when the 25-year-old did grace the pitch, he made his presence known.

Cunha scored on his return to action following a four-game suspension and made his feelings towards Wolves fans clear.

After scoring, Cunha gestured an apology to supporters, which was well received as his song was sung around Molineux.

The transfer drama that happened in his absence won’t be forgotten, and wasn’t by Pereira, who revealed his solution to disciplining the goalscorer.

“I didn’t speak to Cunha about the social media post. I let him do the talking on the pitch,” the Wolves manager told the media in his post-match press conference.

In quotes relayed by journalist Nathan Judah, Pereira insisted that Cunha remains ‘committed’ to Wolves, and called on fans to give the player some love.

“He’s committed, he’s a special player. He needs the energy of love.”

Pereira continued by acknowledging why some Wolves fans were angry at Cunha, but defended his player by naming him as ‘part of our family’.

“He went to the pitch not to think of himself, but the team. I understand the fans, but he’s part of our family.”

Cunha responded perfectly against Tottenham

Cunha’s behaviour has been petulant at times this season, but his contribution to the team can’t be ignored as a result.

While Pereira was right to make the Brazilian wait to make an impact, when he did, he reminded supporters of how big a void the club will have to fill once he departs.

Despite only playing a 20-minute cameo, Cunha was instrumental against Spurs, scoring, winning duels and creating play, providing a hungry energy when the game was becoming more open.

Cunha is back, and Wolves can’t stop winning, giving Pereira a decision to make for the remainder of the season when it comes to team selection.
