Vitor Pereira reveals next step for Wolves and ‘ambitious’ goals for the future

Looking ahead to the new campaign, Vitor Pereira has discussed the next step Wolves need to take and what they are working towards.

As debut campaigns in the Premier League go, Vitor Pereira’s was excellent.

Wolves were in amongst the relegation fight when Gary O’Neil was sacked in December, and by the end of the season, they were 17 points clear of the drop.

Pereira was an instant fan-favourite at the club, and he has been clear about wanting to take Wolves back into European contention.

With that in mind, he has laid out his plan for the coming years at Molineux.

Next step for Vitor Pereira and Wolves is to distance themselves from the relegation zone

Sitting down for a pre-season interview with E&S, Pereira was frank about what comes next for his side. He explained: “The next step is to be consistent in the middle of the table, fighting with the clubs below us. Not looking every time thinking about we need to survive.

“Because if you have the confidence to play and the mentality to play without thinking about suffering, the fight to avoid relegation. This is something that blocks us. I don’t want this fight.”

In order for his plans to come to fruition, Wolves will have to correct a horrible August record, which has seen them win in the first month of the season just once since promotion in 2018.

Considering the high-profile departures at Wolves this summer, getting things right in time for the first game will be difficult, but it’s necessary if they wish to avoid a tussle at the bottom early on.

Long-term vision for Vitor Pereira is to compete for trophies

While establishing themselves in the mid-table is a good target for this season, Pereira doesn’t wish to stop there. He sees Wolves fighting to climb further up the table, saying: “We need to have the same energy that I saw in the months that I’ve been in Wolverhampton and together we can do special things.

“I’m ambitious. I want more and more and more, this is our target. It’s not a dream. It’s something that we need to build the basis to fight, to compete.”

This will be exciting for Wolves fans to hear after many years at the lower end of the table. But the manager can’t do this alone, and Pereira has communicated to Fosun the need for signings.

With many passing through the exit door, Wolves are in a weakened position compared to the end of last season — something that needs to be remedied if his dreams for the club are to become a reality.
